Album Notes

Born out of the tangled and twisted cable covered floor of Michael Oliva’s basement studio, ‘Modern Love’ is a collection of narratives reflecting the life of Michael Oliva and those around him through his point of view. The songs are basic, good old pop music at its core, covered in an indie rock coated shell sprinkled with hooks as addicting as crack cocaine.

Michael wrote all the music and lyrics to every song on the album, and recorded them on Pro Tools® one track at a time. Besides playing all the instruments on the album (except bass on ‘Girl’, played by Alex Stenard, the bassist in Mike’s band The Halequins) Michael mixed and produced the CD in Pro Tools® as well as contributed to the art work and CDs layout.

The songs on ‘Modern Love’ consist of dark, satirical and abstract ideas and perceptions of life and talk about things any 21 year old can relate to. Except instead of delivering them in the tired old clichés and predictable song structures that modern pop/rock are so common for these days, Michael Oliva takes a creative twist on everyday life and says normal things in a very unique, not so normal, way.

Some of the songs on this album were written and recorded in a matter of days, sometimes hours…and some are the final product of several revisions and re-writes of songs-in-the-making that were accomplished over the course of two years.
