ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Oliver Miguel is a musician from Viña Del Mar, Chile. At the age of 13, Oliver was convinced by his music-loving father to take up the saxophone. This ignited Oliver's musical passion and creative drive. Under the influence of his junior high school music teacher Kim Bryant, Oliver was encouraged to expand his ideas with long solos and in his own combos. Oliver later moved to one of the most prominent high schools for music in Western Canada, Lord Beaverbrook High School. Oliver spent his years there leading three jazz orchestras under the direction of Mike Sakatch, while being privately tutored by the great Canadian saxophonist Pat Belliveau.

After receiving eight awards in music as well as three scholarships to further his studies, Oliver continued to study music and earned a diploma in Jazz Performance from Mount Royal Conservatory. During these years Oliver was provided with the opportunity to play at a variety of venues and special events including a private party for Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien. Oliver has also recently had the unique honour of performing for "His Royal Highness Prince Phillip".

Oliver has traveled throughout Canada and California to perform as a leader, while making special appearances on Global Television, CFCN, CBC, A-Channel, Shaw Cable, TLN, The Canadian Gospel Awards, and various radio programs. He has also recorded at the prestigious CBC Studios in Toronto, and has had the pleasure of playing with many respectful artists including: Nick " The Brownman" Ali, Bomba!, Michael Brecker, Ralf Buschmeyer, Dave Camwell, Hugh Fraser, Roy Hargrove, Dave Holland, Tyler Hornby, Kelly Jefferson, Pat LaBarbera, Kirk Macdonald, Russell Malone, Bob Mintzer, Luis Mario Ochoa, Plan C, Joshua Redman, Peter Robinson, Dolly Sillito, Bill Watrous and recently performed a concert with Hilario Duran & Jane Bunnett. At the 2004 Calgary Jazz Festival, Oliver was asked to be in the opening show for Chris Potter. This summer, Oliver had the pleasure of performing at the prestigious Montreal Jazz Festival.

Oliver Miguel has worked as a Student Teacher for Canadian Saxophonist Mark Promane at Humber College in Toronto. Oliver was also one of the few students that was hired to come back in the 2005 semester and teach a class at Humber College, while continuing his studies.

Oliver has recently finished his studies at Humber College and is now focusing on promoting his first CD entitled "Esperanza". It includes all original compositions recorded exclusively by Canadian musicians. Oliver recently started Miguel Music School to help young musicians develop their talents.
