Album Notes

Ollerton's self-titled debut is not what you would expect a teenage kid to create and produce while still in the middle of high school. While his peers were interested in normal teenage activities, Russell Ollerton nurtured a growing obsession for songwriting and the eventual goal of releasing an album starting at the age of 16. Not knowing anything about how such a thing was done, he began studying books and asking questions, working afterschools at an electronics store on minimum wage and expirementing. Starting out with a cheap electric guitar and a 4-track recorder, his knowledge and equipment list grew to a decent digital recording set-up and a plethora of instruments ranging from the standard accoustic guitar to the not-so-standard accordion to a cheap violin he bought for twenty dollars. Mixing guitars, vocals, grand piano and quite a few other instruments into his songs, he created a full-length album.

Featured in a local newspaper, playing shows all around the bay area, being filmed by PBS and spreading his music through the internet and iTunes, Ollerton continues to spread his music to those craving heartfelt messages and melodies.

This CD is EPIC

People don't seem to get this about Ollerton, but the album is a story. Once you begin to understand the fundemental message Ollerton is whispering in your ears everytime you sit down somewhere quiet and listen to all the songs, in order, the songs come to life in a way most songs don't. While some of the songs don't seem as serious as others, such as "Maroon," some songs, especially the 3 parts, are quite intertwined and masked in metaphors and cryptic idealism. It seems obvious Ollerton is very focused on Spirituality, something that should be commended at such a young age. I can hardly belive this was put out independently by a guy still in highschool at the time. Bravo. This is a rare jem.

The Ollerton Self-Titled CD is summarized into three parts, Part I, Part II, and Part III, supported by additional songs. The lyrical genius of Ollerton is put nicely together with amazing instrumentals, creating the perfect atmosphere for a soothing sit-back-and-relax sound. The message hidden inside the songs is both inspirational and memorable. People need to hear this CD, this CD is for everybody.
