Album Notes

Once in a Blue Moon is a compilation of 12 original jazz love songs by composer and lyricist Ellen Vanderslice, sung by five fantastic jazz singers: Rebecca Kilgore, Marilyn Keller, Amandah Jantzen, Johnny Martin and Nicole Campbell. Tom Phillips, producer and host of The Sounds of Jazz, wrote, "WHAT A RECORDING!!! All the players and tracks are good, but that Amandah is sump'n else!" Al Julian wrote, "The musicanship, the vocalists, are outstanding, but it is to be expected when these talented people have first rate tunes to work with." Dick Bogle called Ellen "a world-class song writing talent," and George Fendel called these "outstanding melodies and lyrics." (His favorite was "Moonshadow Dance," with Rebecca Kilgore singing to the accompaniment of Randy Porter on piano, Dan Faehnle on guitar, Phil Baker on bass and Ron Steen on drums. This tune went on to take First Place Jazz in the USA Songwriting Contest, 2002.) First released in September, 2000, this CD is available on CDBaby at last!
