One Star Hotel (Stereo Field Recordings ***). I was late to discover this debut, produced by Mike "Slo-Mo" Brenner, which came out late last spring. My loss. Guitarist and singer Steve Yutzy-Burkey conveys torn-apartness without even trying, and on his most evocative pieces - "Gravity Can't Explain," the traveling song "Superheated Coils," the blow-by-blow "Love Scene Gone Wrong" - he brings a troubadour's sensitivity to reckless rock settings, transforming those overworked three chords into something almost magical again. Can't wait for the follow-up.

Can't get the song(s) out of my head

I've been to many shows from this fine Philly band. The CD is a splendid effort that will drive you to see the band live and follow their continued progress.
You won't hear it as a sample on this site, but "Super Heated Coils" is my favorite rocking track on the album. From the catchy intro to the early-Stipe-like vocals as instrument, this song sticks in my head and will not leave. Oh and yes, the other tracks are equally as fine. I look forward to the second album.
