Guitarist Steve Ono and Harmonica Master Eddie Gordon have created a collection of jazz, swing, and blues instrumentals. Most of the album was created from jam sessions recorded over the last several years.
Boppin' Along, Walking With Frank, Lil Latin, Rain Theme and Boppin' Along (reprise) also feature the percussion of John Martin III of the Flamenco jazz group Cerro Negro.
The brush-like percussion sounds on Spring Is Here and Lil Latin are not drums but vocals by Eddie and John.
Boppin' Along was started with a discussion of the Time Signature and the Key and then we launched.
OG Gets Funky was an old set of changes the fit the groove. Every thing else was just improvised.
Walking with Frank is a tribute to the late Frank Hicks. Frank was a Western Swing Guitarist in the Fresno Area often seen backing up fiddler Joe Holley.
Doodle Blues has changes designed to swing like traditional jazz and hot club music.
Eddie recorded Rascals Remembered on multiple tracks to recreate the sound of the Harmonica Rascals, The Harmonica Rascals were a big time vaudeville musical comedy act from the late twenties into the forties. Eddie joined the group as a child after the group transitioned into early television, International touring and Las Vegas Lounges.
Slithery was almost titled the Euro-Cop Blues as Ed came up with the siren sound during the initial jam. We almost broke up but kept playing through it.
Eddie wanted to play Spring Is Here the moment he discovered the Bill Evans arrangement in a fake book. Luckily we had the recording setup ready.
Lil Latin was also a jam session initially.
Smokin' Ernie Blues is the most basic track on the CD, just Harmonica and guitar playing the blues. Eddie played in memory of Ernie Morris, black Harmonica Rascal and master blues harp player.
Rain Theme is based on percussion and sound effects tracks played by John Martin III from a jam session.
Steve Ono & Eddie Gordon have been playing together 15 years.
