Leonard King was born in Detroit, Michigan, where he has been able to absorb the multi-cultural musics of the entire metro area He has performed with many artists such as Donald Byrd, Johnnie Taylor, Al Green, Herb Ellis, Barbara Dane, Eddie Kendricks, Pigmeat Markham, James Carter, and many others.
He's a drummer/vocalist/arranger who is totally interested in learning music without adhering to limitations of genre confinment, and prefers to title his overall musical overview as Rutude Music, from the words 'roots' and 'attitude'. Currently he tours the world with James Carter and is a member of the Southpaw Isle Steel Band, in addition to fronting Oopapada, and the Visger Road Drum Band.
We're Household Names Today, Baby is the second CD from Oopapada, the follow-up to Non Yawn Varieties with the same eclectic mix of funky jazz, rock, blues, and pop with vocals on many tracks. The CD's title is a play on words with humor, emphasizing that we're anything BUT famous--and happy to be, too. Highly visible--yes, of course!! But famous??? The cover art also emphasizes ALL products with the name Oopapada including an Oopapada television set--with our group on TV--of course!!
