notes

The year was 2000. The Wackacons had invaded the Emerald City. Parties grew listless and nightclubs suffered greatly under the Wackacons' ever-growing influence. Repetitive loop manufacturers, lackluster DJs
and angst-filled metal pushers aligned with the Wackacons and quickly flourished in our once-great city.

It was later that year when fate brought five independently minded Autobeat technicians together. Instantly, their positronic brainpaths fused. Within weeks, laid-back progressive hiphop beats were mixed with brutally brain-teasing rhymes.

It is the primary objective of Optimus Rhyme to rid the world of Wackacon oppressors.

Optimus Rhyme blends live beats with interstellar rhymes creating a sound that can most closely be compared to the music of Deltron 3030 and Kool Keith. MCs Wheelie Cyberman and Broken English trade off rhymes which weave personal experiences into the fictitious lives and adventures of the AutoBeat robots. The lyrical and vocal skills of these master storytellers combine with Optimus Rhyme's live instrumentation (featuring guitar, bass, drums and a taste of turntables) to transport the listener to very different world, one which you will not want to leave.

  • Nercore at its best!
    author: John Richards

This was an excellent album. The lyrics were great and the Wheelie and Broken English do a superb job at delivering them. The beats are very good as well and using a live band gives it a very nice touch.

  • Nerdcore for the win
    author: Tuomo Sipola

With such tracks as Ford vs. Chevy how could I not like this album? Nerdcore will prevail no matter what! Laid-back and well produced hip-hop with excellent vocals. Ask no more for a perfect rap album.

  • A shining example of great nerdk0re.
    author: Fox Mime

With its refreshing sound and hilarious lyrics, this CD is simply fantastic and a necessity to any nerdk0re collection. Werd.

  • Awesome
    author: Jack S.K.

Simply put, some of the best rap/hip-hop I've heard in a awhile.

  • Not to bad, but unpolished
    author: Tubal

On it's own it's an acceptable rap album, with an original 'setting'. The lack of samples from disco-classics is certainly refreshing.

  • Optimus Rhyme dope beats fo sho!!
author: Rap and hip hop beat mister

Optimus Rhyme has got dope beats fo sho!!

  • Great album, very original
    author: Nicolas Webb

I really enjoyed this CD - the whole thing was put together very well. Realy enjoyed the funky band along with the tight, intelligent rhymes. Can't wait for the next one!

  • I see why folkz like this CD - It's totally different
    author: Skinny Corleone

From the flows, to the production and beats. This CD has total alternative and abstract qualities over it. But that's good Hip Hop. Buy Your Copy today? Then come over to our site and BUY our CD?

  • Dang! I 'm still rockin my HEAD...Great Skillz
    author: D-key

Great CD. Still ROCKIN MY HEAD! GREAT SKILLZ... The music is COOL and SMOOTH. LYCRICALLY TIGHT .

  • An innovative album with infectious hooks and solid beats.
    author: Shamus Young

This is an innovative album full of infectious hooks and solid beats. Notable tracks include Organix, which has a fun rhyme and a punchline ending. JZ75 is another impressive track, where group's high-speed, high-bandwidth delivery will make you wonder if they really are machines. Precogni2 and Precognito are variations on the same brilliant lyrics, both of which are essential. Finally, Fuzzy Dice and Ford vs. Chevy are witty and fun tracks. Don't miss this one.

  • Different and Oh so much fun
    author: Will

I was very pleased with Optimus Rhyme, great hooks, fun and different beats and the rapping blended well with the music

  • Amazing CD!
    author: John Flynn

Optimus Rhyme absolutely blows me away with this full-length CD. The rhymes come fast and thick, but thrown off effortlessly. The live backing band provides a rich backdrop for the fun, nerdcore lyrics of the two MCs. There's not a bad song in the lot. Recommended to anyone who likes quality hip-hop.

  • Whee! What a fun CD
    author: svetz

What can I say that hasn't been said above. I bought, I like it. It's stupid mad fun.

  • cutting edge sound
    author: Nat Burner

Definite ingenious styles ,flow, and instrumentation.Reminiscent of the vibe at "The Goodlife Cafe" & "Project Blowed" out in Cali.

  • cd is filled with mad crazy goodness....
    author: hobobob

this cd is mad crazy good and has some supertasticly fat rymes and good b34tz(sorry the 1337 lock got turned for a brief moment)..now if only i could afford something to play it on(sucks being a hobo) j/k

  • Very very awesome; hip-hop for the people who don't like hip-hop!
    author: Miller

I'm not the biggest fan of hip-hop, thats for sure. I dont hate it, far from it (i love a lot of other artists within the genre including frontalot, dj format, and jay-z), but most of it puts me off as it swims in the sea of 'gangsta rap' which sours the genre. However optimus rhyme is probably the best example of 'rap done right' you could ever hear. Fantastic beats and skilled rappers who genuinely have something to say, and say it with such a good use of style, speed, clarity, and above all wit. Worthy of anyones collection. Especially geeks.

  • some real clean hip hop
    author: libb productions

this cd shows different moods and styles. some laid back shit. i'm feeling that. keep doing your thing.. when yall need some nyc flavor beats holla at us.. l.i.b.b. productions www.cdbaby.com/cd/libb4 one..

  • Excellent Hip-Hop
    author: Splitting-Atoms

I've been keeping the whackacons away from my ride for the last week straight with this cd. My only complaint is that it's too short, I look forward to whatever I can get from these guys, SEE YOU AT PAX!

  • 55555
    author: chigozie

i need the cd because i like it very well

  • Something good to bump.
    author: John

This is a great cd, even if you aren't really that into rap. From start to finish this is a pretty solid cd so pick it up!

  • Fantastic Disk
    author: Jasper

Fantastic CD. I really like track 4 and some of the other crazy wierd tracks. I heard about them like many from Penny Arcade, and I look forward to seeing them at PAX '05! This is my new official "Driving Music" cd!

  • author: Steve

I am not a big hip hop fan, I can't remeber where I heard about Optimus. Downloaded one song from there web site and was hooked. Can't wait to see more of the stuff when I move back to Washington! A must have.

  • A "must have" for any alt. hip/hop fan!!
    author: Mr B

I bought this cd after seeing Optimus Rhyme at PAX '04 and have been listening to it almost non-stop since! These guys have put 18 tracks of pure golden flow on this disc.

  • Funktastic flows that rock your pants clear off
    author: Gygaxis

This cd is fantastic, I was so happy to finally get it and promptly grooved through it several times in a row. The flows of optimus are spectular and I love the narative in songs like Fuzzy Dice.

  • Finally, intelligent hip-hop
    author: Tyson

I saw these guys at the Liquid Lounge and loved their sound. It was only a matter of time before I bought the cd...pleased I am...

  • i'm in awe.
    author: BeastieLips

this is definitely some of the best hip hop that i've heard. tracks 6 and 13 blow my mind to smithereens.

  • author: tonkei

    Mmmmmm, nice like donuts.

  • oh so sweet
    author: Jay, from the UK

Just can't get this out of the car stereo, so very, very, good. smooth and sweet, with densely packed lyrics and great beats. look, it's not expensive so just get it, okay?

  • This is the shit!
    author: Dark_Cheetah

As soon as i got this CD out of the mail I went cruising in my car and jammed at full capacity. This is by far the best hip hop album I've bought since The Pharcyde's first album in '92 (hope that's the right year). For all of you sick of the lame messages rap has had for the last 20 years pick this up...you will not be disappointed.

  • Sharp, clean, shiny and nitrous boosted
    author: Broken Shoulder

This CD has made my environment Wackacon free, Thank you Optimus Rhyme

  • Optimus Rhyme is the SHIZZZ-NITT
    author: Jack Cass

I discovered Optimus Rhyme via a link from MC Frontalot. Initially, I didn't think much of the music, but it grew on me, so I decided to buy this CD. I didn't expect the greatness that came forth from the speakers. It really exceeded any expectations I had. On top of having one of the coolest names for a group, they actually have talent. I didn't grow up in "tha hood" so I don't relate to most rap or hip hop. This is what I relate to. Nerdcore hip hop is what it's all about. Buy it now.

  • very good indeed
    author: mashiara

I'm not normally a fan on what is generally called hip-hop, however I do have an open mind and am ready to try new things. An article in slashdot reminded me of an old bookmark (also from slashdot) which pointed to the artists site and after listening the tracks a few times I decided to get the CD. The only thing I missed was a barcode (I keep all my music and movies in a database, barcode is a quick way to search it, just pass the box under the reader)

  • Lyrical bombs of the old skool variety
    author: Joshua Collins

A blessing for those who have suckled on the free mp3's on the Optimus Rhyme webby, the opportunity to own the full set of interstellar beats is compelling at least. This album has something to suit all with an open musical mind, from the sheer velocity of the rhymes on Powder Blue Egg Hatch , in which approximately six lines are utterly without flaw or vocal depreciation in less than seven seconds, to the more melodic , funked out beats seen in Fuzzy Dice and Slippery. Did have some difficulty with getting the cd onto my computer for importing to my iRiver for mobile enjoyment , the computer rearranged the files and assigned different track names. Easily remedied , even though the tracks "Intro" and "DJ Slaylord" are not shown on the cd listings itself , listening through on a cd player and referencing to the track listing on this website organised the issue in under ten minutes. In summation , this cd is too unique to pass up the chance to own. Instantly hooking , it is one you can recommend to a friend and be assured of a positive comment. Looking forward to a follow up album of the same quality or even a rerelease of Positronic Pathways.

  • fast clean rhymes
    author: K.Gurtman

This is a great Cd by optimus, an expansion on the EP with some new sound and a great beat.

  • God damn.
    author: Loxodonta

Hooray for Optimus Rhyme. I've not been this happy with a CD in a while, nor have I found it so thoroughly nurtured both in concept and construction. Anyone who's a true fan of hip-hop, of sci-fi or of just great music needs to be getting this shit.

  • I AM UNICHRONIC! MUDDA F'N TIGHT MAHN!
    author: Mc Bits

If your thinking about buying this cd.Go head u wont be disappointed unless you are a loser in which case you deserve to donate your money to a good cause.Optimus is amazing. As everyone else said, live instruments make all the difference in this cd.They bring it to life like freakin frankenstein. Not to mention Wheelie has got a flow unmatched by people in the media spotlight.I back him up in a quote he used in one of the songs on this cd."And I just make a mockery of any dude who just spit, and i aint representin nothing so i cant even trip." I was unsure when i bought it if the entire cd could hold up to the qaultiy of the 2 demos on their site. But now that I've got it.Im glad i did before they hit it big and its impossible to find the first presses of this album.Broken english kicks linguistix wit crazy style. These musicians and mc's are nothin to step to.THEY GOT THE MATRIX YO WHAT MORE CAN BE SAID?

  • Talented musicians, Stellar lyricists
    author: G-Wiz

I purchased this CD following a show in Seattle. Blown away by the tightness of the music, all played by live instruments. Lots of catchy tunes, lyrical styles, all played differantly (no monotones here). From Wheelie's straighforward, fast-action rhyming to Broken English's in-depth, fluid poetry provide a nice exchange of verses. You will not be disappointed with this CD as the value far outweigh its price.

  • Buy it. now.
    author: Sleazy

Penny Arcade hooked me up with Fuzzy Dice and Ford vs. Chevy, these two tracks alone make this cd a STEAL.

  • A worthy buy
    author: CaptainPlanet

I found out about Optimus Rhyme from Penny Arcade, and I went to their site, which had Fuzzy Dice and Ford vs. Chevy. Seeing as these songs were superb, I went out and bought the CD, only to find that there were only a few other songs that were at the level I was hopin for. However, the good songs are enough to make this cd worthwhile.

  • One of the best hiphop CD's I have encountered
    author: Dave Moore

The CD is fantastic .. the beats are smooth and flawless, and the lyrics are tight. The live instruments provide a unique flavor that I have not encountered elsewhere in the hiphop community. Furthermore, there is little or no repetition between the tracks. The overall package is better that virtually all the CD's I have heard from syndicated hip-hop artists. The only complaint, and it is very minor, is that Windows Media Player screws up the track ID's, so I can't tell which song is which sometimes, but that may be Mr. Gates problem anyway. With this release, Optimus has guaranteed at least one sale of their next album, which I eagerly await.

  • Very fun!
    author: Happysin

I am really enjoying this CD. I generally like instumental hip-hop that isn't focused on the "bitches and bling bling" crap of lots of big label music. This is no exeption. The geeky flavor just adds to it in a very pleasent way.

  • F*** the Wackacons!
    author: Illuminati Jack

This disc is tight as Hell. I was spinning the singles from their website in my iPod for a few weeks, then I had to have the whole disc and it didn't disappoint. The well crafted flow and interesting beats make this a must have. Do your part in fighting the Wackacon invasion and buy this disc!

  • WOAH!
    author: BahamutDuo

BUY CD NOW!!! This is an incredible album all round, the tracks flow well, and the beats are rank with funkiness. If you want something different, and high in quality buy this disc now!

  • A whole new world
    author: Derek

I've never really been into this sort of thing but when I heard these guys I HAD buy the CD right away. I reallly like the instruments rather than having the same loops over and over. Particularly, the guitar parts remind me of why I learned to play to begin wiith and make me want to explore what I've been missing.

  • Awesome--one of my favorite--
    author: Catherine Lush

I love this Cd...most of the songs have become some of my favorite...who knew that it would turn out so well.--

  • Old School Hip Hop Ressurected
    author: Black-Man

One of those albums that are worth the money (i.e. Not one-hit wonder songs), the one that'll wind up in your CD player or playlist for a month straight. Optimus Rhyme goes and revitalizes true hip hop with their entertaining (if somewhat nerdy) story telling in smooth rhymes. The live instrumentals help compliment the lyrics and in some cases really makes it shine. Only complaint about the acutal CD is that I noticed quite a bit of the tracks to be misnamed when I copied the tracks to my computer (nothing that can't easily be corrected).

  • OR Kicks some serious ASS!
    author: Liam M

Thanks to a mention on the Penny-Arcade website I found what turned out to be a killer Hip-Hop crew called Optimus Rhyme and they kick ass . I highly suggest going to thier site and downloading the singles to give it a listen. I can assure you the rest of the CD is as good if not better!.

  • Nothing beats live instruments
    author: Conrad

The fact that Optimus Rhyme uses live instruments throughout this entire album and pulls it off better than any other group puts them head and shoulders above in the hip-hop scene. Rivaling in skill and style only with the top produced bands, this album shows you don't need a huge record label and millions watching to put out a cd that blows most music out of the water. Wheelie Cyberman and Broken English put out the finest lyrics on this album.

  • author: eelektrik

I picked up the CD for 10 bucks after their show at the Penny Arcade Expo, Deffinatly worth it. Its gonna have a slot in my 6 CD changer in my car for a while, awesome stuff. And they kicked ass Live too. I generally dont like hip-hop, but this rocks, this is how hip-hop should be!

  • Wakacon blastin goodness
    author: Dave

All I gotta say is this is what hip-hop is supposed to be. Old school styling with witty lyrics, this will be on my playlist for a long time

  • author: ScithDeath

Holy crap this is some 1337 stuff, i never really liked much hip hop but this pwns!!!

  • Tasty....Tasty....Tasty
    author: Devin

Penny Arcade gets the credit for the heads-up, O.R gets the credit for the delivery. The title of the review is all that really needs to be said. Quality, wackacon-influence free music from start to finish. Only minor complaint was that the CD art was misprinted on my copy as the track listing showed 16 out of the 18 songs

  • Was expecting a little more, but still worth the money
    author: Mark Whitmore

I got the CD in the mail today (5 days from the US to Australia = cool beans) and promptly jammed it into my CD player to give it a listen. The first shock was the length of the album, at 43m14s, when there are 18 songs noted on the album listing. It's all good, though, since I don't particularly care for 3m20s cookie-cutter 'hits'. Where is that great song with the "Pop Music" sample, though (DBR, if Winamp's reading of the meta-tag was correct)? I'm going to have to re-download the tracks available from Optimus Rhyme's website and burn another copy of the album with any of the missing/altered tracks tacked onto the end. Those quibbles aside; the thick basslines, witty lyrics and Transformers references make this a great purchase. Now, I'm off to re-download that DBR song.

  • Great stuff
    author: K-Man

Optimus Rhyme's new CD brings a very unique slant to the hip-hop scene. Stumblebee and Powerthighs are excellent, while Wheelie and Broken English show that they are skilled at songwriting. Plus, I can never pass up a Transformers related hiphop album.

  • Hell yes :P
    author: Keith

I got this link from the Penny Arcade website and instantly checked out the free download songs. And fell in love. Now, to ascertain wether they dispatch to the United Kingdom...they bloody well better :P

  • Just amazing....
author: Kameron P. aka The Special K

I heard of Optimus Rhyme from the Penny Arcade site. I went & listened to their songs they had up & instantly fell in love with the music...its just great music to jam too! This CD is great, now all I need is for them to come down to Texas for shows. O.R. have a fan base so far of 50 people in my town that I know of. That's just in a span of 2 days! RESIST THE WACKACONS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Funky beats & excellent vocals.
    author: Kenneth Fredheim

Always a fan of awesome beats, I found this CD to be some of the best hip-hop I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. The funky bass combined with the lyrical Autobot universe makes for a truly enjoyable listening experience. A must-have for anyone interested in good rap and music in general.

  • The most fantastic piece of music written, ever.
    author: Vince N.

I think the title of this review says it all. If this CD was any better, I would simply have my paycheck directly deposited into their bank accounts. I have no doubt this action would go unnoticed because I am sure their accounts are massive due to their fantastic talents and thick, delicious, neverending rhymes.

  • One of the freshest and most entertaining CDs ever created
    author: Jason Fryer

The CD was packed with killer beats, awesome melodies, groovin' guitar licks and some very funky bass. All of it blended perfectly to create a sound that was unique and satisfying in every way. One of the best purchases I have made.
