orange is in was born out of the years of writing, recording and constant quoting of the movie Stripes by two talented veterans of the Houston music scene, George Kovacik and Jeff Balke.
The two met and began working together in the band Kovacik has with his brother - the Surrealtors - in the mid 1990's playing college-oriented pop music to one's of people on a semi-regular basis.
When the band folded in 1997, Kovacik and Balke kept their relationship intact and retreated to the solitude of Balke's garage studio where they wrote and recorded songs for the next five years - a period interrupted only by the occasional acoustic show.
In 2002, tired from the lack of performing, the duo began to entertain ideas of forming a new band. They immediately enlisted the services of violinist Amy Price who had performed on several of the duo's recordings. Shortly thereafter, they brought in Chris Rogers on guitar after the recommendation from a friend.
Their search for a drummer spanned nearly an entire year and ended with well-known Houston drummer Leesa Harrington-Squyers. orange is in was set.
orange is in blends pop hooks, hard-driving rock rhythms and a rootsy edge. The band is already creating a buzz in Houston's music scene and has a growing fan base. In October 2004, orange is in released its debut CD/EP "Snacks" and continues to write new material and do shows in and around Houston in anticipation of recording a new CD in early 2005.
