This is a wonderful Wurlitzer Orchestrion playing piano, mandolin attachment, 38 violin pipes (21 first violin and 17 viola), 38 flute pipes, bass drum, snare drum, cymbal, triangle, and a fire gong. Plays from 65-note Wurlitzer rolls. The serial number is 14727 indicates it was built in 1912.
Rebuilt in 1920 for a partially deaf blacksmith who could not hear the bass drum or triangles, the drum was removed and a larger one installed, necessitating the cutting of a hole in the top to accommodate the big drum. The fire gong was added to supplement the triangle. This machine was named for the elderly blacksmith who owned the machine in Memphis, Tennessee for many years until purchased by Paul Eakins.
This beautiful machine is now restored and is located at Disney World in Orlando, Florida, where it entertains for thousands of people each day.
This first volume features some of the favorite songs of the day, such as "Smiles", "Smile Awhile" and "For Me And My Gal". Please sit back and enjoy these wonderful tunes of yesteryear.
