Album Notes

“Combine Alfredson's knack for choosing just the right color and tone in any given composition with his colleagues' ability to match his gestures, and you have one of the most promising organ trios in jazz.”
~ Howard Reich, Chicago Tribune

“Lansing, Michigan based organissimo… somewhat self-deprecatingly refers to itself as a bar band. But the group goes well beyond that as it stretches the boundaries of the traditional organ trio with bits of funk, blues, Latin, groove and New Orleans influences.”
~ Ed Trefzger, JazzWeek

“Gloss provides chewy chords and measured melodies as a foil to Alfredson's blistering, extroverted style; running with the current fashion that weds mainstream jazz and jam-band soul, Alfredson plays just recklessly enough, committing tiny acts of arson that keep things hot but don't quite bring the house down around his ears.”
~ Neil Tesser, Chicago Reader

“Alfredson handles the organ duties with panache, guitarist Gloss' solos and accompaniment mesh wonderfully and drummer Marsh lays down a red carpet of boogie with veteran authority. There's nothing too complicated about organissimo's approach: It's music that reminds of saxophonist Johnny Griffin's aphorism that jazz is music for people who have decided to feel good in spite of conditions."
~ Mark Stryker, Detroit Free Press

“Organ aficionados should consider [organissimo] a red alert. ”
~ Larry Hollis, Cadence Magazine

“organissimo… hits the spot in so many ways. Funky, soulful... Old School... New Attitude... a real modern organ trio sound!”
~ Eric Cohen, Music Director WAER-FM, Syracuse, NY

“[organissimo] returns with its second studio effort, jammed with Hammond B3-laced jazz, blues and pop that's every bit as challenging and award-worthy as the debut CD.”
~ John Sinkevics, Grand Rapids Press

___

On the heels of their award-winning debut (2003's "Waiting For The Boogaloo Sisters...") organissimo returns to the studio to create their sophomore effort, "This Is The Place".

A very melodic and symbiotic trio, organissimo brings fresh air to the sometimes stale organ trio scene. They draw casual listeners in with their democratic approach to music.

If you want a listening experience that will draw you in, if you want funky music that has some meat to it, if you want to know where jazz is headed...

This Is The Place.

Randy Marsh - drums

Special Guests:

I first heard these guys on XMRADIO. I was impressed. I quickly found out who they were and got the CD from CDBABY. I could do a review of just CDBABY. Anyway, on this CD they take the spirit of jazz and the spirit of funk and move a little further down the musical road. Most people would spend time trying to compare these fellows to you name it. I won't, this CD is good by any terms you would care to use. The CD is thought out and put together well. Each track flows to the next. You find yourself wanting more, not less when you come to the end of the CD. The sound is totally their own. In another life, I was a drummer. The drummer is THE force and anchor for this group. I am not putting anyone down, just saying that much of their sound hangs on the drummer's fills. His style is to move the music along and leave room for his band mates to solo. The MUSIC is always Tight. It is apparent that these fellows have played together for a long time. It shows in their work, very impressive. This CD is currently my favorite on the morning commute. I drive some days and take the train on others and either way I am listening to these guys at some point in that 90 minute ride.... If you don't have it, BUY IT NOW... if you do have it, get their first one as well.

This is one groovy disc. The talent is inspiring and overwhelming. This CD doesn't get ejected from my car player. It keeps repeating and I keep listening. I actually sing along, and there aren't even any words. The tunes stay in my head and have made a happy home there. I feel good when it's in my ears. Can you dig it? Now buy it and make yourself happy, Jack.
