The song Ave Maria which usually attributed to baroque composer Giulio Caccini is the biggest musical hoax. Actually it was composed and first performed by Russian guitarist, lutenist and composer Vladimir Vavilov. In 1970 Vavilov recorded and publish this song on the album “Lute Music of the XVI-XVII centuries” on the Russian Melodia label with the attribution to “Anonymous”. Almost all songs on this album were composed by Vladimir Vavilov and ascribed to composers of Baroque era. The reasons for such a hoax was banal. At that time it was impossible to imagine that Russian label will release the music of unknown lute player. As Vavilove’s daughter Tamara mentioned "My father was convinced that the self-taught works of unknown composer with a trivial name "Vavilov" will never be published. But he really wanted his music reached the audience and he went so far as to give all the glory to the medieval composers and "unknown authors."
The "authorship"of Caccini for the first time appeared on the record of Irina Bogacheva in 1975, released by the same Melody label. But the world wide success the song got after Irina Arkchipova performed and released the song on the album “Ave Maria” in 1987. Then this song was performed by numerous artists including Inessa Galante, Charlotte Church, Andrea Bocelli, Hayley Westenra and many more.
Franz Schubert's Ave Maria was composed in 1825. Originally the song was titled "Ellens dritter Gesang" (Ellen's third song). The words to this song were taken from Sir Walter Scott's poem The Lady of the Lake and Adam Storck wrote the German translation Franz Schuber used for his song. The person responsible for setting the Ave Maria lyrics in Latin remains a mystery to this day. This Schubert's Ave Maria version include both Latin and original German lyrics.
In 1853 Ch. Gounod made variation on the 1st prelude of Bach 's "Well-tempered Clavier" for violin and piano and six years later the words to Ave Maria song were added and this made this piece so popular
Johann Pachelbel canon in D composed in or around 1680 is the most widely used, recorded and recognizable instrumental work of all time. The Pachelbel canon may represent the most extraordinary instance of the crossover phenomenon in all of music. During a short period in the 1960-1970s it went from being a quite obscure work of early music to a universally familiar cultural item. The Beatles, The Who, Bee Gees, Aphrodite's Child, David Bowie, Mark Knofler and mamy many more (see the complite list of Artists and songs on www.origenmusic.com) seems to have been inspired and used chord progression and melody of Johann Pachelbel canon in D.
