Album Notes

Here's a revival of good old country gospel music sung in a way that will take you back to that little white mountain church. The Oriskany Strings got started singing these songs in their own little white church in Oriskany, Virgina in the beautiful Craig Creek valley. With two female and two male vocalists, they are reminiscent of the original Carter Family and Chuck Wagon Gang. And besides a guitar, clawhammer banjo, bluegrass banjo, and autoharp, they even have a washtub bass to help create the true old time country gospel sound.

WHAT OTHERS HAVE TO SAY:

"I really love to hear your group! You remind me of the old Chuck Wagon Gang records, only you sound even better. Your voices blend so well."
- Bill Bryant, Galax Virginia

"I used to listen to the Carter family years and years ago and your band reminds me of them. It's foot-tapping, heart-warming music. I'm so glad you have a CD now, so I can listen to your songs all the time."
- Pete Robertson, Brown Summit, North Carolina

"Your band brings back old songs to my memory, and I like the new ones you do that I haven't heard before too. I think your music appeals to young and old alike.."
- Mary Sue Surber, Martinsville, Virginia

"Listening to the Oriskany Strings takes me back to the days when my father used to play the fiddle and my family sang together. When I hear your music, it just makes me want to hear more!"
- Liz Inman, Martinsville, Virginia

"You have a really good sound. I love the old songs and your renditions are beautiful. It's great music to sing along to."
- Craig Stevens, Greensboro, North Carolina

"The Oriskany Strings do a great job. I really enjoy listening to your songs."
- Sandy Ledford, Oriskany, Virginia

"I really feel the enthusiasm and spirit and love of the Lord in your music. It lifts my spirits and starts my toes tapping."
- Richard Ronk, Eagle Rock, Virginia

"Listening to your songs transports me to an earlier, gentler time. I can just feel the stress evaporate, especially when I sing along."
- Hazel Lewis, Fairchance, Pennsylvania

"I got to know the Oriskany Strings a few years back when working with Rita Parady. They are a unique and diverse group of folks with a great sound. They also seem to have such a good time when performing, and that makes me enjoy their music even more!"
- Jennifer Crawford, New Castle, VA

The CD was really enjoyable. The song selection was superb. Beautiful harmony. I especially like #5. This music and the words of the songs are really inspirational and give a lot of hope to today's generations. They bring back fond memories to many who remember when life was simpler. The little white church is where it's at!--and this CD puts that point across, at least to me. Hurrah for "Mostly Gospel"!!!

A friend of mine introduced me to Southern Gospel music a while back and I immediately became a fan of the music genre. I enjoy listening to the old-time and bluegrass gospel music on the “Mostly Gospel” CD and find it to be uplifting to the spirit and very entertaining. The banjos and the washtub bass are great! I would recommend Mostly Gospel to anyone interested in taking a trip back in time to a little white church in Virginia. If you like Southern Gospel music, you’ll love the Oriskany Strings! Buy this CD and ENJOY!
