The concept of home recording has brought about an era where anyone, for a minimum of investment, can record an album in their bedroom. Consequently, a lot of folks with significant resources but minimal talent are cranking out ‘product’ and offering it to the world. Then you run across someone like Jon Ososki, who recorded his recent “Tempt and Turned” CD at home, and you realize there are home studio artists who have a wealth of vocal and instrumental ability as well as considerable songwriting skills. Ososki’s seven-song effort was recorded and mixed “at Jon’s house” but this is by no means a slipshod endeavor. Upon first listen it becomes obvious this is the work of a gifted songwriter who is equally adept at layering instruments as he is presenting intelligent vocal arrangements. While moving through the songs one becomes increasingly aware that Ososki has sculpted a rhythmic body of work without using any drums or percussion. Few others have accomplished this task. Pink Floyd’s “Welcome to the Machine” and John Mayall’s “Turning Point” album come to mind but Ososki is no blues artist and he doesn’t take listeners to outer space as did Floyd. Instead, Ososki gently probes humanity’s inner spaces. Songs focus on the human emotions of loneliness and a feeling of being left outside life’s mainstream. On the opening track, “Left Behind” Ososki laments, “Thought I was the only one you’d ever see … are we the ones left behind…” On “Is It Possible” he contemplates what it is to be “twenty something” and wonder if it’s possible “to leave this place clean alive and well, why would I change if no one else would change…” The music is layered but never cluttered; the vocals are intimate and the harmonies beautiful; the sincerity is unmistakable. This CD may have been recorded at home but the result is far bigger than the living room. - Joe

This album is great! The songs flow seamlessly together and create a world of their own. The acoustic sound is very relaxing but still has an edge to it and is very unique. This is a must have in everyone’s collection.
