Album Notes

Songs of intimate, subtle power. They deftly interweave, and at times, unravel the tangled threads of people's relationships and desires. Patricia does not sing so much as breathe her exquisitley observed details of human nature into your ear - like confidences shared between close friends. She tells her own stories and those of others in an intimate, vulnerable and earnest manner that is irresistable.

It can often be enough for a singer to have a beautiful voice, or for a musician to possess real expressive and technical command of their instrument, or for a songwriter to be able to find just the right combination of words time after time. But, to ever find all three of these gifts in one performer is rare.
The singer/songwriter/pianist Patricia Ossowski is just such a rare musical talent. We are lucky to have her living and performing here in New York City. ----Larry List, an artist who writes about the intersections of music, writing, and visual arts.

"...her singing was like that of the Sirens, how simply she could be mistaken for salvation, as the droves of men dove in after her, drowning in her song. Luckily we came prepared - we were tied to our chairs with ropes her entire set..." -J. Rogan Kelly, poet

REVIEWS

Her songs are so personal, so believable.

Pat Ossowski sings things that women really think. She sounds the way that women really feel. When listening to her I felt like I was hearing it from inside her head and feeling the beat of her heart. They're songs written and sung from the inside out.

Songs are too strong to be ignored for long.

Her music is moody piano-driven pop songs, but more like Fiona Apple than Tori Amos. The songs are poppy enough for mainstream radio but also work well on a college/indie format. Each song on here actually stands well on it's own, though this seems to be one of those albums which works best as a whole. One of the only low-points is that there are only nine tracks on here, nowhere near enough of this type of music. I relly look forwad to finding out more about Patricia and about her music, these songs are too strong to be ignored for long.

Emerging Talent

Patricia Ossowski should be writing movie soundtracks. Her self-release of “My Best Mask On” could be the score behind a movie drama where happiness triumphs after many emotionally trying moments. Ossowski’s ability to lead the listener into her songs to feel the emotion that drives it rather then focusing on the chords or words is a unique touch with today’s singer/songwriters. “On Your Way Out” is a great example of this. Starting off with soft notes of a piano, your mind is calmed by the time you hear Ossowski’s sadden voice as she sings to her love to “please just go”. You’re slowly engulfed into the mood of the music as cello appears at the climax to seal in the feeling. “Perfect” starts off subtle and leads you into one new instrument at a time until your speakers are filled with a small orchestra. “Enough” picks up the beat, with a piano influence similar to Tori Amos during her “Boys for Pele” period. If this is Ossowski’s first release, she should be proud of a musical accomplishment that tends to only be created behind the walls of a major label recording studio. While a major looks imminent, I’d like to point her in the direction of Sundance.
