Otan Vargas (Born on October 4, 1984 in Manila, Philippines) is a Filipino who moved to New York in 2006. He is proud to say that he was born and raised in Tondo, known to be the poorest place in Manila--"A Place" that emphatically influenced his music.
He started his solo acoustic career in 2006. His honest music captivated fans from all over the world, giving testimonials of how its melancholy touched them beautifully.
Like every musician Otan Vargas has a story that would intrigue the deepest skeptics and if you listen closely to his lyrics you may pick up that story as words flow through his mind they are scratched onto paper through these thought’s come his powerful and meaningful lyrics that could have special meaning to each and everyone of us.
The high point thus far in his career came on February 14, 2009 at The Music Box Borgata Hotel and Casinos. Aaron Lewis, the vocalist from the band Staind, called him up on stage to perform "Its Been Awhile". His performance warranted a five-minute standing ovation.
After his life-altering performance at The Music Box Borgata Hotel and Casinos, Otan Vargas releases his much-anticipated full-length debut album entitled “Alone”.
Alone with his acoustic guitar and indescribable melancholic voice, the theme of the album centers in the anonymous feeling of desertion, but Otan Vargas' music differs in that it enigmatically brings sanguinity despite of its evoking sadness.
It's a long journey ahead for Otan and his supporters as he tries to make it big to the music scene.
