Oasis Motel

Wow, talk about a great find! This CD is one that is on the rare side these days, it's great all the way through. It's a shame that truly talented artists like Julia Othmer don't get the heavy promotion that the mainstream artists do. Her voice is so smooth and sultry, and her songwriting is top notch. If you're looking for some new material to check out, look no further! Highly reccommended.

This CD is off the hook!!! I am an artist and I love to find great music to paint to, and this CD has been in my studio stereo since I got it! I have been listening to Julia for several years from her days on the East Coast, and if you haven't seen her live, RUN, DON'T WALK, to see her perform! She has an electric stage presence, vibrant personality, and oh, what a deep and rich sound she will penetrate you with.

Julia Othmer CD

I first heard one of her songs on the show "Big Shots." I liked it so much that I googled it to find out who the artist was. It's rare that I enjoy one musician's whole album, but I love every song on this CD. I've been recommending others to check her CD out too!

I haven't seen Julia live, which I hear is the height of her charm, so I do hope to go. A friend of mine really likes her and sent me copies of both Oasis Motel and the bootleg. This will sound rude, but because of her I really wanted to like these records more than I did. Julia's talent lies in her voice; the woman can sing, and I respect the fact she knows how to play an instrument unlike most female artists. However, I found the lyrics to be....boring and cliche, plus much of the record was overproduced. I understand the latter: Julia wants to get signed and she is probably being advised that this is the way to do business. But it kills her sound. Lyrics come with time and experience; I don't know if Julia writes about love, love and more love because it sells or because she doesn't want to tackle more controversial topics. I really think she could do better--yeah, I recognize that this page is filled with happy reviews, but how many dig her because she is gorgeous? A voice like that needs good lyrics and good production. The music varies, but basically it is strong enough. If Julia has a manager who wants her to be something instead of a one hit wonder, he/she will consider this.
To the loyal fans, diss me all you want, but if you really like her, stop with the praise and tell her what she needs to hear so she can succeed. I've worked with enough musicians to know that very few get to hear any honesty about their work.
