Does anyone remember laughter? The Otterpops and their music might just cure your bad case of seriousness. The simple wry wit and pop hooks are guaranteed to challenge your resistance not to smile. Once you give in to this musical fun, you'll find yourself playing it over and over again, happily.
The Otterpops are one of the catchiest power pop bands this reviewer has ever heard . A heads-up to all you overly serious types, bemoaning your daily fate in this troubled economy: lighten up. The message from The Otterpops is that all you need is irreverent wonderful pop fun. What The Otterpops offers is exactly that -- an invigorating musical respite that refreshes and delights. Singer Kostraba's sometime wry lyrics with their clever sarcasm invite comparisons to the likes of earlier Aimee Mann and Elvis Costello. Optimistic cynicism hasn't sounded this good in some time.
Earth Science Club's release marks a prominent beginning to The Otterpops career. "It was pretty shaky at first" Says Kostraba. "finding the right people can burn up all your karma points, I cashed in everyone I had for the rhythm section. But it was worth it". She is talking about former Fudgegun Drummer Alicia Warrington and Ritchie La Paz on the bass. Alicia packed up her life in Michigan to be a part of the group. "When I first heard some of their early efforts I knew that I wanted to be a part of the movement".
All told, this debut effort deserves high praise. Kostraba and her musical cohorts, guitarist Glenn Pilling, bassist Ritchie LaPaz and drummer Alicia Warrington deliver solid tracks here. This album presents the past filtered through the present, deceptively simple songs that grow better over time, and it's even catchier than flypaper.

Alicia warringtons mother let me hear this CD. I have an eclectic music collection, and I loved this CD. If you took a chance on a new CD, this would be the one to lay your money down on. It's not perfect, but name one that is. GOOD JOB!
