Owacha Willy, aka "Mtu Mrefu" got into music in 1974. He quickly identified with the rumba style popularized by the Zairean musicians like Dr. Nicholas Kasanda and others.
On learning to play the guitar, it was evident to him that this would be his favourite style. No wonder he later would play with the Kenyan great composer, the late Ochieng' Kabaselleh and his Luna Kidi Band. The distinctive rhythm guitar in the classic "Achi Maria" is Owacha at his finest.
Apart from rhythm guitar, Willy is also an accomplished bass player. Fans of the popular Nairobi based bands of the 1970s like Somajeko, Mazadijo, Maroon Comandos and Todi Nationale of Juma Toto will find Willy's style familiar. This is Willy's first CD and it will certainly find its place among rumba lovers globally.
