Nostalgia is a funny thing. It's grounded in the past but dependent on the future. At its best it reflects the things of value that are worth remembering, and in fact, still valuable. Al Oxenhandler was introduced into the world of nostalgia before he was old enough to know what it meant. The kid was a born entertainer with the sort of gifts artists and musicians could dream about. By age 11 he was playing drums and singing along with the records of Sinatra, Mathis, Prez Prado, Mongo Santamaria, and the George Shearing Quintet.
Al launched his solo piano career during seven years of study with legendary St Louis pianist Herb Drury. Through the 80's and 90's Oxenhandler made the rounds of St Louis establishments like Palm Beach Café, Lido, the Chase and Fedora Café to name a few. His current tenure at the Ritz-Carlton St. Louis is testimony to his lasting appeal and continued evolution.
In this recording we hear the pieces of Oxenhandler's musical puzzle all fall into place. His flawless time and effortless swing blossom in the presence of tunes that represent the best of the Great American Songbook as well as some originals. With over four decades of music under his belt Al has earned a sense of nostalgia for songs that remains timeless. In his words, "These are songs that make me smile. If I invoke that in the listener too, mission accomplished." Enjoy! -SHADES OF JAZZ, NPR Radio

Something\'s Gotta Give

\"Something\'s Gotta Give\" does just that--it gives and gives. It is such a sweet, strong, sensual reminder of all the good stuff out there. It came to me at a time when jump-starting was in order. Besides helping me feel so much better mentally and emotionally about changes and choices I\'m making, your CD is simply so damn fun to listen to cuz it \"moves.\"
Thank you so much for your \"I Can Take a Hint\" too and \"Intro to Lonely.\" Just how you make words reach us and then leave us with such live, lovin\' feelings is contagious and God knows we need tons of that kind of contagious. To start off your CD with \"The Best is Yet To Come\" matches your blessed genius to be uplifting as well as foreshadowing.
How \'bout giving us a Christmas CD???
Just a new fan. Take care! And Keep Moving\' and Singing for us!

This CD is tops. A must-buy for your holiday list. If you like Sinatra and/or Harry Connick Jr., you will love Something's Gotta Give with Al Ox. My 3 year old loves to dance to the tunes, too. It's a great CD for the whole family. Enjoy!

"Cheek to cheek" music
author: Patty
The night owns some people. There's night poetry here and it invites us to think by feeling as in our dreams. This CD is your personal invitation. The style is intimate and personal. This is "cheek to cheek" music.
Oxenhandler, drummer, pianist, vocalist, treats us here to his first vocal CD release. With selections from standards like Cole Porter's "Under My Skin", to James Taylor's "Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight", to a couple of Oxenhandler's original pieces, "I Can Take a Hint", and "Intro to Lonely", we move through a range of emotions to an upbeat wrap with Al Hammerman's new piece: "All New Songs". An elegant close to a sexy CD.
