Album Notes

'Oyl Miller's debut album = Easy listenin' lo-fi love.' —Colin Baker, iTunes review.

The Oyl Miller Band is Andrew Miller.

Miller was raised from the shadows of Mt. Hood and in the mist of the Pacific Ocean on a steady diet of the Beatles, Little League Baseball, Mark Twain and Indiana Jones.

In Portland, Oregon, creativity is a way of life. Living in Portland instills the belief that creativity is also democratic; any person has the ability to create great art.

On Go West, the Oyl Miller Band presents a stripped down, do-it-yourself brand of indie rock, hailing from the do-it-yourself capital of America: Portland, Oregon. These songs aren’t the slickly produced realizations of glamorous recording factories, but rather a raw collection of musical exploration put on record to be shared with others.

After a period of eavesdropping on the world, he poured what he found into a typewriter and shortly thereafter, put them to music. Go West is Miller’s collection of responses, anthems, ballads, odes and rants.

What you find here are songs that evolved while listening to the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Beck, Nirvana, Cat Stevens, Neil Young, Ryan Adams, and Radiohead among others.

The songs on Go West were written during spare moments between adventures, waiting in traffic, sitting on park benches, during movie previews, atop a giant sand dune and sitting in front of a vintage 1937 typewriter.

I'm a big fan of independent artists and their music. Not only did I dig the home-town lyrics, I also loved the Dylan and Beatles influences. I found myself humming the songs for days.
