Pop this CD into your player and get ready for a joy ride on the back roads. Acoustic guitar, masterfully layered with percussion, electric guitar and catchy melodies are the hallmarks of this surprising album from an exciting new talent. The energy and honesty of Paden’s music will have you tapping the dash and singing along. A range of styles is creatively fused to produce a unique sound that brings to mind well-known artists and yet defies categorization.
This album was recorded in the summer of 2009 as the first in a series of EPs to be released over the coming year. Recorded in his studio outside of Portland, Oregon, this album is a culmination of an immersion in music that began when Paden was 13 years old. Paden’s drive to learn and his interest in many styles led him to study blues, rock and jazz disciplines with a variety of instructors and included a summer at Berklee College of Music where he was selected to perform an original song in the Songwriters’ Showcase. Recognized by indie labels such as Newsong Music and the Independent Singer Songwriter Association, Paden’s clearly a talent to watch. Check out his web site - www.padenwest.com.

Paden West – a closer look at his eponymous new CD.
author: Fordman
I first saw Paden perform as a mid-teen at a concert. Now my notion of having seen a unique talent is confirmed by 4 well-crafted original songs that mark his journey as a young man. The work is sincere & unpretentious. There’s confidence & substance, with the structure and frugality of Mason Williams, smeared with early Pearl Jam - while all the while Dave Mathews waits with a knife and fork…Give him a listen & keep an ear open for more.
And here I find my notion of having seen a quite unique talent confirmed by four well-crafted, original songs that seem to mark time in the journey toward seeing the world as a young man. The artwork, photos and song titles portray a confident young man on the street with an emblem of style, and it seems that if you walked up and asked him any sort of question, he’d have quite something to say.
The back cover has him in rural roots and closer to where he’s going than where he’s been. The work is sincere an unpretentious; both big pluses in my book, and there’s confidence and substance, with a structure and frugality of Mason Williams, smeared with early Pearl Jam, all while Dave Mathews waits with a knife and fork…
That makes it much clearer, doesn’t it? Give him a listen and keep an ear open, we’re going to be hearing a lot more from Paden West.
