Album Notes

Recorded in living spaces around the country and mixed and mastered in the studio with Steven Heller, "Sometimes You Fly" has been a little while in the coming. Recording started last winter in a cozy dinning room from an apartment in Boulder, CO (Sunlight and Learning, Fish Hooks and Letters, The Claim), moved to Andy Thompson's basement studio in Minneapolis, MN (Misty Mountain Tryst), went on to a small bedroom in Asheville, NC (Snow Spotted Northerner, Blue Tipped northerner), then moved up stairs to a larger room in the same house where the rest of the album was finished (Executioner's Dream, I Will Buy You Horses, Sun Broken Wings, There Are Stars, Black Mountain Walker). The Fall was recorded in a college bedroom four years ago, tried many times to recreate the intimacy of that recording with higher audio quality, but the original says all that needs to say.

An old friend Katie Harris lends her shimmering voice to a blistering performance of Misty Mountain and Sarah Evelyn Veres brings her cello chorus to I Will Buy You Horses, finally bringing some sort of tangible conclusion to the song. Steven Heller was instrumental in bringing the album out in one cohesive piece; He signed up for mastering, and ended up mixing the whole thing. I am very grateful to these three people.

The CD is sleeved in 100% recycled cardboard and each cover is a print from a linoleum block carving that i did. They have all been loved and pressed by hand and as a result, each cover is a little different and unique. Enjoy!
