As a younger brother of a guitarist who played a great deal of blues, jazz and popular classics from the 1930’s-1950’s, Guy developed familiarity with these styles to complement the classical background obtained from thirteen years of piano lessons. One piano instructor’s tips for creating elegant arrangements of popular classics, vigorously employing the practice of word painting when rearranging songs, and listening to more contemporary pianists like Joe Sample, David Benoit and Stan Whitmire, have helped strengthen Guy’s skills in the area of rearranging popular classics.
In addition to developing elegant arrangements of popular classics, Guy ventured into recording studio work in the late 1980’s. Recording studio and composing-specific projects included radio ads in the late 1980's for Moda Italia Clothing, a theme for “The Classic Connection,” a program that aired on the Classified Channel in the San Francisco Bay Area in the late 1980’s, and creating keyboard parts for aspiring pop and country performers in the late 1980's and 1990's. For the past fourteen years, Guy has also provided background music for weddings, graduations, retirement parties, corporate events, industry association banquets, and charity fundraising dinners. Guy has also become a preferred music provider at Sunol Valley Golf Club in Sunol, CA. Guy is also part of a six-piece group that provides background music and dance music for events at CordeValle, a golf resort, in San Martin, CA. Guy rounds out his involvement with music by giving piano lessons at students' homes.
In his second release, "Reminiscing,” Guy applies the techniques associated with developing elegant arrangements to timeless classics from the late 1970's and the 1980's. Guy has dedicated this release to two greatly influential people in his life who have passed away since the release of "The Way We Were:" his mother, Diane Palazzolo, and his former piano instructor, Carol Griffin.
