Dave performed with several cover bands in high school and throughout his twenties. He began dabbling in songwriting in his early to mid-twenties and performed with The Dismissed - a bash and pop rock band once described as being "like The Replacements, pretending that nobody cares about them, only less drunk." The Dismissed never split up but just stopped playing. It was around this time that Dave decided he was ready for an education. After college he worked as a social worker for a while in the areas of homelessness and mental illness until he realized that his cravings to create and play music never diminished. Although Dave continued to mess around with songwriting during his hiatus from music, it took quitting his job to get back on track. Willie and Wishing You Were Here are two songs that he started while in college, but did not finish until preparing for this album. The first full song written for the album was Live Here Anyway. In this song Dave shares his struggle leaving a place he loves behind, longing to go back, and realizing that he can't. "Lyrically, I write about my experience and hope that listeners can find themselves in there, too. It's all divinely inspired."
Paledave music is diverse. Some of it is jazzy, some of it poppy, and some of it is just plain rockin'. What's consistent is Dave's love of "the hook." You will find his melodies stick in your head for hours. Check out Born Beautiful and Counting Moles to see what we mean.
Dave's guitar playing is emotional and melodic over tuneful rhythms. He also often records and performs with guitarist Bob Huffman. Bob's attention to detail, technique, and his genuineness are apparent in his contributions on Find What You Love. Dave stated that he is especially fond of Bob's work on the song Georgia. "Bob's guitar just made me melt when I first heard him play that part [intro to Georgia] in the studio. It perfectly reflects the mood of the lyrics."

an eclectic mix of infectious melodies and insightful lyrics
author: Michelle Lynne
"Find What You Love" is an eclectic mix of subtle, yet infectious melodies and guitar riffs, and fresh, insightful lyrics that grow on you the more you listen. Just listen to songs like "Wishing You Were Here," and try not to whistle or "Glorious Someday," with its upbeat chorus and then try not to sing along.
After hearing a few songs on the c.d., I thought it was folky, but with a Beatles kind of pop sensibility, but just when you think you've got PaleDave pegged, a song like "Intersection" is put in the mix. With it's jazzy, cool, flavor, it is more reminiscent of Steely Dan. It is here and on "Georgia," another song slightly off the beaten path, that the protean and skillful musicianship of Dave Buehrer and friends really shows. The versatility doesn't stop here. The c.d. ends with "Born Beautiful," a pensive rock ballad with an emphasis on minor chords and power guitar.
"Find What You Love" is full of good writing, both lyrically and musically. The lyrics are perceptive and observant of everyday life and people. From stories about a bum named "Willie," to "Live Here Anyway," a song that paints a vivid picture of "a cold gray winter day, set in a small industrial town," we see themes of ambivalence, yet hope. PaleDave knows how to write something other than a tired love song. In fact, the closest thing to a love song on this c.d. was not written by Dave. The lyrics come from an ancient poem by Hafiz that Dave brought to life with a catchy melody. The song, "Counting Moles," may have a strange title, but you have to hear it to understand. And once you do hear it, just try not to hum or sing along. C'mon, I dare you to..."Find What You Love."
