With the warmth of Joni Mitchell, she's the kind of artist that evokes a spontaneous exhale; a relieved sigh that comes from the comfort of her rich, solid songwriting and the modern ring of contemporary handling, reminiscent of Shawn Colvin. Angie Palmer weaves the ring of her guitar with the resonant buzz of her hearty voice and the lilting message of her songs, occasionally blessed by the voice of cello, into a collection of lightly country-tinged gems.

Wonderful Voice, Inspired Playing, Best Lyrics I've Heard for Years. Buy It
author: Christian Cowburn
There really hasn’t been anyone around that could play the Americans at their own game; who could sing and play like Gillian Welch and write lyrics like Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan. Well there is now. I have just listened to the new Angie Palmer cd ‘ROAD’ as a result of the review on CD Baby’s home page (‘one of the best I’ve ever heard’ they said, so...) and it is astonishing that this woman isn’t huge. If you want to hear country-blues and rock at its best then look no further. The playing (guitars, mandolin, violin, cello, banjo) is first rate and the lyrics to songs like ‘The Street of the Cat Who Fished’, ‘The Ballad of Love and Strife’ and ‘Footprints in the Snow’ are the best I’ve heard for years. Not only that but boy can she sing! anything from the quietest love song (‘More Than I Need You’) to the growl on the rocky, driving ‘Fishtails’. And if there has been a better country blues song than ‘Comin’ Home’ in the last 10 years, well I haven’t heard it. What can I say? BUY IT!

Loved it, loved it, loved it!! What more can you say about a gifted artist finding her voice and soaring on the wings of giant creativity? This entire album is fantastic - we have played it over and over again since receiving it in the mail from CDBaby. Appeals across the generations - our young children love it, as well as our 20- to late-30 something friends! Cannot go wrong - buy it for yourself, AND your friends as a gift for no special reason - other than to share the power of a beautiful piece of work.
