Album Notes

Pamela McNeill is a story teller; a songwriter of lost truths and forgotten dreams. Her new album, Nightingale, is a novel in music form; songs of pure truth and heartache wrapped in delicious melody. Soulful revelations delivered in a fiery Americana package, lush strings and harmonica, meet incendiary guitar work. This is an album reminiscent of a time when it was all about the song. Think The Byrds, Graham Parsons, Emmylou Harris, Rickie Lee Jones, or Bonnie Raitt. Soulful revelations delivered in a fiery Americana package.

“The first time we saw Pamela McNeill perform, we thought, ‘Wow! Who is this woman who sings like the love child of Janis Joplin, Stevie Nicks and Chrissie Hynde?’ We still think the same and are now also amazed at her brilliant and beautiful songwriting.”
Lori Barghini & Julia Cobbs from FM 107’s the “Lori & Julia” show (WFMP 107.1 FM Minneapolis/St. Paul)

“Pamela McNeill writes the kind of tunes the Dixie Chicks used to record before they got angry.”
Minneapolis StarTribune

“The World Beyond” (from “Nightingale”) is a KILLER song! I
absolutely LOVE this song and I don’t say that very often.”
Brian Oake - Cities97 (KTCZ 97.1 FM Minneapolis/St. Paul)

“I’ve been producing and engineering records for 31 years. I’ve never worked with a more talented singer/songwriter. Pamela McNeill is an electrifying performer, an amazing singer, and an incredibly gifted songwriter.”
Tom Tucker Sr. - Producer/Engineer (Lucinda Williams, Prince, Soul Asylum)

I love Pamela McNeill's voice. She has qualities of many of the greatest singer/songwriters. When you listen you can hear Cheryl crow, Stevie Nicks, Janis Joplin, Bonnie Rait all jelling together in to something different but warm and familiar at the same time. Her songs tell great stories but she doesn't forget that you need a great melody to get the listener to sing along in the car or on the Bus. She's not afraid to sing hard or be vulnerable. She doesn't have to impress you with pyrotechnics because she knows how to sing a song with her emotions. Yes, the CD sounds great as well. The players are all great and when the tracks call for it there's the energy they need to push the song where it needs to go. Here are a few of my favorites from the Nightingale CD but it's hard to not want to say things about all the songs. The World Beyond is a great twist on Rock and Roll Heaven with lots of energy and passion in the lead vocal with a great choral backing. Mississippi River song could hold it's own against any of the country tunes on today's radio without all the fake twang that most of them have. You can here the memories in her voice as she relives her past. One Good Angel is such an upbeat tribute to a lost loved one that it makes you smile as much as you feel sad for the loss. Baby gives me shivers. She sings in a very dreamy voice and then hits the passion button to get the intensity she needs to get the guy she's singing to to wake up. Opening Act gives you a quick but optimistic look at the life of, an Opening Act. Pamela is no opening act. She's a headliner because of her songs and her singing. If you want to add something great to your Ipod or your boring drive to work give Pamela McNeill a listen.
