BIOGRAPHY

Pamela Underwater has been lurking just below the surface in Halifax since 1995. Her first dive into the world of music was under the alias “Lavender” and resulted in a small run of cassettes, and many local all-ages performances. She was baited with a love of music from childhood; and soon began playing piano, then guitar. As the years rolled on, Pamela lent her talent as a singer, song writer, guitarist, bassist, and pianist with the likes of The Museum Pieces and The Middleclass Pushovers.
Pamela has presently plunged back into the pool of performing as a solo artist. 2006 resulted in the release of “Pamela & The Underwater”, a 14-track submergence into the depths of her powerful, guttural vocals, and diversified musical sound – cultivated from working with many local musicians in the studio.
It was during the production of “Pamela & The Underwater” that Pamela began to have new musical ideas floating in her head. How could she maintain her small-fish perspective, as well as have the ability for big-pond sound? Pamela soon hooked the answer to her line and she’s reeling in a fresh solo catch which will be released in the autumn of 2007. This latest (yet-to-be-titled) cd is Pamela’s voyage into unexplored genre tributaries; namely pop-rock with an indie edge, while infusing multi-layered vocals and sound. Her course is currently being plotted for a Canadian tour shortly after the release of her latest work….
As a life-long music listener, Pamela has circumnavigated the oceans of songs and song-writers. Her primary influence is David Bowie; with subsequent gatherings of Paul Simon, The Cure, Portishead, Blur, The Strokes, and Leonard Cohen. The natural ebb and flow of melodic affectedness leads to new discoveries, and for this reason the list will continue to grow.
Pamela made a splash with some big fish at Canadian Music Week (Toronto, March 7-10, 2007), her first out of province performance. Her unique, edgy-pop, danceable songs earned her overwhelming industry and audience appreciation; and she will definitely return later this year!
