Album Notes

"Pam Kalson sings a range of American music -- blues, country, roots-rock -- that either gives The Great Unknown (self-release) potentially broad appeal or relegates it to bar-band status, depending on your point of view. Strong playing from the musicians aims to bend listeners toward the former opinion; between the styles and the arrangements, the best performances here, like Kalson's own "Love Waits," have a Band-like subtlety. A moving interpretation of Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Long As I Can See The Light" closes the set." "Blues Revue Magazine" "The Great Unknown," 9 sides, Her totally professional approach to this album paid off. The only thing better than the guitar work is her vocals. 4 Stars" "International Country Music Association Newsletter Update February 2002" Hello and welcome to my CD Baby page. This CD is a combination of four previously unrecorded songs and five cover tunes I'm crazy about. My husband and I were living in Ohio at the time, and Jim wanted to record some tracks to play along with at home. We started with that in mind, but soon decided to do a full on CD project. It was fun, frustrating and a total blast! We were very lucky to have some good friends who happen to be great musicians and who also wanted to be part of this project. Jeff Mosby, guitar player extraordinaire, put down some really terrific and emotional guitar tracks. It was no small feat to get him on every song, either. We did the basic tracks with our own equipment in Ohio and at one point, because of Jeff's busy schedule; we made a trip to his home in South Carolina and took the gear with us. We needed a vacation anyway. Besides being a great guitar player and vocalist, Jeff does incredible custom inlay and leather work. It would be worth your while to check out his web site: www.mosbyguitars.com. Andy Flores was a local keyboard guru in Ohio who played and sang in one of the most popular bands around and was also part owner of CRG Studios. He laid down great solos, fills and vocal harmonies on this CD and also helped us at the end with mixing. Andy has since moved to Tennessee and is sharing his wonderful keyboard and vocal skills with various Nashville artists, including Kevin Sharp. In the category of emotional and crazy.... We made a copy of the songs "Love Waits" and "Real Sad" and sent them out to Las Vegas. My brother, Mark Kalson, lives out there and I couldn't think of anyone I'd rather have playing fiddle and singing some backup. He outdid himself. I really love what he played on those songs, especially on "Love Waits". He brought the emotion to a whole new level. I'm also thankful to Dave Liles and Mike Mobley, who each played guitar. Dave did a great rhythm track on "Shakey Ground" and Mike put down some pretty fills on "Real Sad". Others who really helped us complete this project include Bill Tracy from The Desert Orchid Studio in Las Vegas, Doug Druckemiller from The Room in Lima, Ohio and Charlie Davis at Ground-Up Recordings in Lima, Ohio. My husband, Jim Klingler is playing drums on all tracks. If it hadn't been for him, this project would not have even gotten off the ground. He did a great job on the drums and had some terrific ideas for arrangements and general producing. I'm playing bass on all tracks except "Shakey Ground". I've also got to mention my friend, Tracy Huffman. Songwriter, guitar player, and singer, "The Great Unknown" and "Real Sad" are his babies. I feel very fortunate to be able to say I recorded these two songs. Thanks for visiting my CD Baby page and if you'd like to know more about me you can visit my web site: www.pamkalson.com.
