PANAGIOTIS KALANTZOPOULOS
Born in Athens, studied music at the Guildhall School of Music in London (1975 - 1980) and then a year at the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris. Upon his return in Greece he worked as an orchestrator-producer with Manos Hadjidakis. Since 1986 he has composed music scores for feature films, television, theatrical plays, and documentaries.
He has written a number of orchestral scores as well as music, bringing together samplers with unusual combinations of instruments. Having a thorough knowledge of traditional Hellenic music as well as classical his final sound always maintains a "human touch". His songs and his themes are linked to the multicoloured melodist tradition of Greece with a distinct "ethnic" feel.
In 1993 he was awarded the 1rst prize for best music for his score on the''AFRICA'' TV series as well as the 1st Prize for Best Music in TV Advertising. He developed his own studio which he thinks of as a "High End Polaroid" that can turn scetches into final tracks. During the summer of 1998 he wrote the score for the National Theatre production of Sofokles "Electra" that was staged at the ancient theatre of Epidaurus. He has recorded six soundtrack albums and three with songs.
He also received the award for Best Music for Film 1999 at the Salonica Film Festival for the score he wrote for the film "Peppermint" and last year he wrote the song "Summertime in Prague" for the film " Cheap Smokes"
