Fables of Fahtcha explores the balance between composition and improvisation. The six compositions pay homage to such avant-garde jazz legends as Ornette Coleman, John Coltrane, and Thelonius Monk; drawing further inspiration from Tim Berne, Marc Ribot and Cecil Taylor. Available for the first time on CD, this newly remastered recording includes an additional 20 minutes of music not heard on the original 1992 release.
The band:
Daniel Panasenko - guitar, guitar synthesizer
Tony Passarell - soprano & alto saxophones
Clark Goodloe - tenor saxophone, recorder
Chuck Ehlis - fretless bass guitar
Dennis Hale - upright bass
Gene Dotson - drum kit

Inspiring improvisation with solid songs.

Panasenko's writing really shines on this disc. I particularly like The Surface, Mind Swimming, and Of Silence and Expression. The band connects really well, with Chuck Ehlis laying a solid and tasteful foundation on bass. Dan Panasenko's playing on Of Silence pays tribute to the Marc Ribot and Bill Frisell school of sound, texture and playfulness.
