Before there was a band …
The songs and sounds in this collection were recorded on a little farm in the Cascade Mountains between the winter of 2007 and spring 2008. Its 19 tracks are hung with field recordings, homemade instruments, and the vintage analog beats of a 1970s Kimball organ. Go ahead and have a listen. You'll hear stories about campfires ("Apple Wood"), truck stop diners ("Piece of Pie”) and the saddest song about Paul Bunyan that's ever been sung ("Paul the Axeman had a Blue Friend").
These songs were written and recorded by Mike Midlo and originally released as a series of three hand-lettered and numbered EPs:
Pancake Breakfast "Moo!" - spring 2007
Pancake Breakfast "Howdy" - fall 2007
Pancake Breakfast "(Sigh ...)" - spring 2008
Long since out of print, The 3 EP Collection includes all of Midlo's barn recordings on one record. It's ripe with tall tales, old time stomps, and sounds of the rural west. One fan described it this way:
"It's like getting a postcard from an old friend who you haven't seen for a long, long time."
Since these records were first released, Pancake Breakfast has grown from a barn recording project into an 8-member folk rock music machine. They play clubs, festivals, and campfires around the west. Learn more about the band at:

"I really like this band called Pancake Breakfast … It’s just
this guy Mike Midlo and a cast of characters to back him
up … At the core of it is good songwriting … every time I see
them I feel like I’m peeking into somebody’s living room while
they’re having a family sing along."
