Album Notes

“Transcending expectations”
- DOWNBEAT

“This exceptional session is his follow up effort to his 2005 Latin Grammy nominated release Mi Tambor, & it exceeds all expectations.”
- JAZZIZ

“Transcend, blends jazz over-tones with Latin influences, creating an amalgam of groovy sounds that captivate and entertain from the first tune to the last….Paoli Mejías transcends the conventions of mainstream jazz, creating a rich tapestry of original, Latin flavored, improvisational music.”
- JAZZIMPROV

"Following on the heals of a Grammy-nominated disc, Paoli Mejias delivers a one-two knockout...an even more daring CD that stretches Latin jazz borders with a mix of world influences"
- MODERN DRUMMER

"Este percusionista puertorriqueño nos regala un disco de primera. Desde la primera canción "Encomienda" dedicada a Ray Barreto, se aprecia la elegancia y belleza de los arreglos, sonido, composiciones y vibra del disco... Este es un proyecto de Jazz Latino de la más alta calidad e imaginación musical."
- MUSICO PRO

Most amazing afro-cuban jazz
author: Fraettt
Seriously, this is one of the most intriguing, tantalizing jazz records I've heard in a long time. It's drawing heavily from the afro-cuban tradition, but in an unheard way. As a drummer and music lover I am blown away by these dense, very contemporary afro-cuban polyrythmic structures, let alone the song writing and improvising. Everybody seriously interested in high-scale percussion stuff should go and BUY BUY BUY.
