Papa Joe Grappa covers the news through humor and the blues.
Tom Hyslop of BLUES REVIEW (OCT/NOV 2005) SAYS:
"Too White to Sing the Blues is a refreshingly unserious collection of humorous blues - not a song here has to do with poverty, cheating, alcohol, or any other standard subject. Papa Joe Grappa is an LA-based songwriter whose humor hits the mark whether his target is SUVs, aging, church sex scandals, plastic surgery culture, medical marijuana, Mary Kay Letourneau or whites singing the blues. With an accomplished band and tasty guitar, Grappa delivers his pointed messages well."
Papa Joe Grappa is backed by a stellar group of musicians who've played and recorded with Bonnie Raitt, Steve Miller, Dave Mason, Van Morrison and Bruce Springsteen. He's accompanied on vocals by the Sweet Inspirations, backup singers to Elvis Presley. Papa Joe Grappa is unique and has been described as "the square peg in the round hole of the blues."
Papa Joe Grappa is a guitarist who writes and sings topical blues in the Los Angeles area. He's played clubs in New York, London, Paris, Memphis, Philadelphia, Las Vegas and Salt Lake City. His work has been featured on the Dr. Demento Show. In the daytime, he is head writer for the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, under the pseudonym Joe Medeiros.
Funny irreverent lyrics. Solid serious music.

I need some medical marijuana
author: dog8mybag
I have to honestly say i bought the cd for one song. Medical Marijuana. Other songs have since grown on me. The first time i heard it on an online radio station i dug it. Thats when i searched the net for it and found you at myspace via your daughters website. It was the only one place that even mentioned your name at the time. Now you are all over that bad boy. Easy to find.
Its a gotta have cd and song for any "legalization of marijuana advocate". Its how we all feel. Its probably one of the best songs about marijuana since "dont bargart that joint my friend". Great blues, comedy and message that marijuana can be a kind and gentle friend.

Gut busting blues
author: Richard Amery Kenora Daily Miner and News
If you put the essence of the past year or so’s worth of Jay Leno’s monologues to jazz flavoured blues music, the result would be Papa Joe Grappa’s new CD, Too White to Sing the Blues.
It is no surprise since Papa Joe, whose real name is Joe Medeiros, is the head writer for Leno during the day. The result is a CD of Joe’s understated guitar played with jazzy undertones and topical lyrics exploring the joys of modern living fraught with SUV’s, plastic surgery, teacher-student relations, priest/alter boy relations, legalized pot, jury duty and Starbucks while the title track brilliantly skewers white bluesmen. You Get Old If You’re Lucky is a witty ode to aging.
If you aren’t politically correct, you will not only bust a gut laughing, but be impressed with the quality of musicianship behind the music. Papa Joe Grappa is pure fun for the twisted mind.
