Album Notes

Formed in October 2002 by Brian Sanchez and Tom Perona as an alternative outlet for their creative energies, Paper Tree morphed in such a way that neither individual could have anticipated.  The project began as a response to the over-saturated local music scene.  Attempting to create something unique and exciting, the two began recording at Tom's suburban Chicago residence, eventually relocating to Brian's apartment bedroom.  Neither workspace was more than 6'x4', which fostered an air of claustrophobic inspirato.  By the time they emerged from the six-month sessions, the duo had produced a record that thumbed its nose at classic recording conventions, defied categorization among industry classifications, and was a true collaboration between two visionary musicians.  Each song is drenched in harmony reminiscent of late 1960s psychadelic recordings by the Beatles and the Beach Boys.  Melodically, the material is dense to the point where it cannot all be absorbed upon the initial listening.  Their music is ripe with subtle harmonies coupled with melodic lines that will stick in your head for days on end.  Though all the music was written and performed on record by Sanchez and Perona, the Paper Tree live experience involves a cast of four, rounded out by Adam Dell on guitar, and Tim Rimbos on drums.
