PAPILLON RELEASES NEW E.P. PATTERNS ON YOUR FINGERTIPS
A Smooth Blend Of Psychedelic Pop For The Swinging Masses
Los Angeles, Jan. 8th 2007.
It’s been a year since Papillon began infiltrating the L.A. underground scene with their unique blend of modern psychedelic europop. With successful live gigs, the west coast band continues to seduce their audiences with their soothing melodies, melodic fuzz guitar and soulfully hypnotic groove. Papillon just released a 3 song e.p. Patterns On Your Fingertips, recorded with producer Tony Lash (The Dandy Warhols, Tahiti 80). The new release captures some of the most original sounds yet familiar ever commited to CD. Imagine Serge Gainsbourg backed by a moodier Stereolab and a much edgier Air, then you begin to understand Papillon’s subtle language. The new CD contains songs that have recently been featured on Showtime’s the L Word, NPR’s Morning Becomes Eclectic and the Suicide Girls’second DVD Italian Villa. A couple tracks have landed on Jane Magazine/ Maybelline’s Fifth Annual Readers CD, as well as the Standard Hotel CD compilation set to be released by Quango records in early 2007. Papillon is currently working with LA based songwriter and producer, Luther Russell, on a forthcoming album. Papillon’s current line-up is, Mikael Jehanno (vocals, keyboards), Roger Campos (guitars, samples), Brian Capati (bass) and Nick Mariani. Patterns On Your Fingertips also features the voice and keyboards of Portland musician and writer Liz Brown.

Papillon's "Patterns on Your Fingertips"

I first heard this gorgeous title track from that deleted scene in the L-Word episode “Left Hand of the Goddess”. Thanks to YouTube and especially those meticulous archivists at TV.com, I finally found the song title. Thanks also to CD Universe. They won't have the CD in stock until January, but they did post the label. So I bought my copy at CD Baby. And BIG thanks to CD Baby and to Papillon for keeping the CD format alive. Yes, there are now high-res MP3 downloads, but audiophiles will always prefer true uncompressed CD quality.
