Paradigm is a testament to longevity. What started as four young kids barely starting high school has become a band that has evolved, gone up, gone down, gotten into musical car wrecks, been broken, been renewed, but most of all...perservered. Now in their sixth year together, Paradigm has recorded three full-length albums (including their newest, "The Madhouse"), numerous demos, played countless shows around the midwest, and won the loyalty of many.
The Madhouse is destined to be a Chicago cult classic. It is an album that the band had been writing songs for since early 2005, and then spent recording and producing from October '05 through the summer of 2006. Countless hours of passion, frustration, joy, pain, and satisfaction were a part of the creation of the album. It is the highest point of maturation yet achieved on recording by the band, and it shows. From both a lyrical and musical standpoint, it is miles ahead of the band's '05 release, Mainstream Epidemic. Putting aside any previous inhibition, the band proudly displays 7+ minute epics repeatedly on the album, from the triumphant closure of "Shrug" which features 40 voices of the band's closest friends singing together, to the dimentia of the final track "Riptide," Paradigm has made sure to push every boundary they had ever felt, musical or otherwise. The Madhouse is a highly rewarding album, and is a testament to a band thåt has outlasted nearly all of it's peers.

Carved out a (permanent?) place with this one...

This CD can really get under your skin, if you let it. This is a 'whole package' gem - hits hard, demands you follow its development and mood, song after song, leading up to Riptide, that works as 'spritual' an ending in its own way as what "When the Levee Breaks" does for Zeppelin #4. Maybe you can hear in the mix as I do, that odd combination of both youth and age, naivity and 'as deep as it goes' - it seems to be just the thing for creating extraordinary songs...
