Album Notes

MR. BUREAUCRACY

'Mr. Bureaucracy' is aimed towards any corporate or political establishment designed to keep society dumb, confused and poor. While the riffs are fast and grungy the melody and lyrics almost seem sarcastic. The line "Mr. Bureaucracy can you control the air I breathe" opens the track to a sudden burst of energy. The chorus refrains of "Freedom of choice not good for me" ring through to an old school grunge sounding riff that takes the song in a somewhat different direction yet repeats itself as the song ends. 'Mr. Bureaucracy' is the first single from the new Paradox album 'Corporate Pollution'. While the track potrays a much bigger picture than any previous Paradox endeavour the band still maintain their Alternative Rock sound remeniscent of the 90's.

'MR. BUREAUCRACY' (Lyrics)

Mr. Bureaucracy can you control the air I breathe
A broken democracy you won't control my sanity
Mr. Bureaucracy can you control my privacy
A state of security you can't control my mind it's free

I'm broken down by what I need freedom of choice not good for me
My stomach hurts your hungry greed can't put me down I'm on my knees

Mr. Bureaucracy can you control my destiny
The clothes I wear the food I eat the lies I'm told my self esteem
Mr. Hypocrisy can you destroy my hopes and dreams
A blindfold monopoly you can't destroy my mind it's free

I'm broken down by what I need freedom of choice not good for me
My stomach hurts your hungry greed can't push me down I'm on my knees

It's better to stay down don't have to think for yourself
It's better to play dumb don't have to prove yourself
There's never a way out you gotta work for your debt
It's better to break out you gotta free yourself

The government won't leave me alone, I'm tired and spent I'm tired and old
The government won't leave me alone, I'm tired and spent just leave me alone
Leave me alone

I'm all jaded intimidated, My colour's faded I'm liberated
Make me sad, make me beg, contents read, weighed and fed, I'm half dead drained and bled
It won't be long..

With Mr Bureaucracy you’re immediately taken aback by the sound these guys have achieved, it’s so refined and to the point that you question whether this is really a band you’ve not heard before. At the same time, the raw and powerful edge in the music keeps it real and down to earth, it’s quite a combo! Politically charged from the outset these guys sound like a hybrid of Nirvana and Bush with a heavier edge to the music. The track is catchy from the outset, lead primarily by the guitar line but listen to the drums and what they do, then listen to the broken down section midway through – these are guys who know how to play their instruments and write a song.

I've just heard 'Mr. Bureaucracy'.. Wo.OW!! What have you done here?? Talk about the evolution of Grunge! I'm blown over with how you are constantly pushing the boundaries of Grunge and take it to COMPLETELY new places while managing to maintain that distinctive Grungey feel.. Serious talent here man, I couldn't get enough of Corporate Pollution and What You Were at the time I first contacted you (and truth be told, they got me through some tough times..), I remember I couldn't emphasise enough how much these tracks meant to me.. but this new track of yours is above and beyond. Well composed in a storytelling fashion, keeping me interested in what's coming next and hungry for more when it ends. So I'd like to thank you guys, not only for keeping what's left of Grunge alive, but taking it forward while keeping it fresh even though it all has that uncompromising Grunge sound. Fucking amazing stuff man, it really is. "Psychedelian's Independent Review"

So what do you get when you start with a very clever set of lyrics, and a robustly structured music foundation, and you add an addictively metered set of guitar riffs, a calculated-flashy bass line, and a rock solid drum foundation? You get a starting point for a brilliant song like "Mr. Bureaucracy." Add to that a flavorful vocal performance that very might be Pete Mac's best work to date, and a precision-driven set of background vocals, a complex use of verses, bridge, and choruses, and a mix that harkens back to the conventions we first started hearing in Seattle in the early 90's, when grunge was first taking form, and you begin to see why this song resonates as it does. It is a Paradox song to be sure, but it reminds us of the immense craftsmanship and discipline that made the hard-working bands like Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and Nirvana so special. With reverence to be paid to the energetic punk scene of the 70s, and the heavy rock of the 80s for sure, it was the craftsmanship and discipline that made the short, but sweet grunge movement a very special part of rock history. And it is that very craftsmanship and discipline, with a fresh energy and creativity, that make this new offering by Paradox smoking-white-hot. Bring on the rest of the album, please!
