THE ANCIENT ECSTATIC BROTHERHOOD OF PARANOISE

JIM MATUS-Guitar/vocals

He has performed and recorded with such diverse musicians as Don Cherry, Anthony Jackson, Dave Weckl, Percy Jones, Steve Marcus, Lenny Picket, Roy Nathanson, David Torn, Elliot Sharp, Philip Johnston, Gary Windo, Billy Bang, Melvin Gibbs, Al Anderson, and Bern Nix. Early Musical influences such as King Crimson, Spirit and Weather Report later evolved into an obsession with the indigenous music of Africa, the Middle East and India. The Sufi music of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and the Moroccan Master Musicians of Jajouka have recently inspired the latest incarnation of Paranoise, along with the philosophies of Noam Chomsky and Terrence McKenna.

THORNE PALMER-Lead vocals/lyrics
Thorne Palmer studied voice and composition at the University of Connecticut and the Hartt School of Music. After he forgot everything they taught him he started playing punk and reggae around Connecticut Massachusetts and New York.

Bob Builds his own basses, which are as esoteric as his playing, and has repeatedly won the Hartford Advocate reader's poll as "Best Bassist".

PARANOISE REVIEWS
"This is a fascinating concept...unlike anything you've ever heard...Might we have a new subgengre here? Progressive World Rock....Highly recommended."
PROGRESSION

"If Led Zeppelin had chosen to turn 'Kashmir' into a career--and smartened up their lyrics considerably--they might have sounded like Paranoise...Real Revolution rock like this is a rarity."
BOSTON PHOENIX

"Anarchist theory. Ancient spiritual values. Studio wizardry. Like some kind of techno-shaman, Matus has put together an urban tribe of professional musicians..the band defies description."

Super Powers

World music that kicks ass. Powerful political and musical statement. Fans of Mahavishnu Orchestra and King Crimson should eat this up. This is their best work as far as I am concerned. Great use of vocal samples. A great concept band all the way around.

Would you like some Propaganda with your World Fusion?
author: Laurie Graham
Egads! Noam Chomsky, Michael Parenti! Skip your Berkley Philosophy class and just sit down and get an earful of Paranoise! An under-current of Tribal, Middle Eastern, and Indian chants and rythyms mingled with modern beats and liberal rants!! I adore it!!! It is beautiful, stimulating, and vibrant!! A little self-important, but who cares! These guys are putting it out there with no apologies!

Simply one of the best music I've ever heard
author: denis from france
Simply one of the best music I've ever heard! Paranoise is a great band indeed! Their fusion of arab influences, oriental grooves and King Crimsonish wall of guitar enlightened by that wonderfully light violin is absolutely unique. The bass playing is awesome in this moving landscapes of rythm and beats. The percussion's work mixes in a adventurous ways some subtle arabian patterns with some powerful rythm à la Bruford. The amazing musicality of these musicians leads them to write some very memorable melodies, some catchy tunes with some lyrics that have a real meaning.Clever and talented band, Paranoise deserves to be world known.

This is not noise !!!
author: Eric T
Hard work pays good sometimes. This is one of those moments. This album is pretty good and not hard to listen to. The mixture of styles is done with class. Sometimes a bit heavy (but not to much), odder times it reminds me (in a way) of what P. Gabriel do add that with intch of Kansas (!!!) By no means this is not pop music and it's not hard do diggest either!!!
