Album Notes

Pollyanna in a French indie-folk duo from Paris. Pollyanna have performed more than 150 shows in Europe (France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, England...) and in the US (New-York). They have supported Sleater Kinney, Julie Doiron, Françoiz Breut, Wilco, Bright Eyes... and are now a reference in the French indie/DIY scene.

This is their first album released in the US, though they have recorded another one before, Whatever They Say I'm A Princess. In this new record, you can still enjoy the deep female vocals, carefully crafted arrangements : guitars, drums, cello, glockenspiel, banjo, ukulele, and hints of piano.

The atmosphere of On Concrete, mainly acoustic but not only, goes from an intimate whisper to angrier rock. The bittersweet lyrics explore the cracks in ordinary life: a walk downtown, a stroll on a beach, a failed love. English, the language of Hollywood, tourism and business, is for Pollyanna that of a tune hummed to oneself. Lullabies for grown-ups, without delusions but hopeful.
