breathtaking!

I happened by accident (is there ever an accident?) to have the Soundscapes channel on my digital cable and "common places" began. I was instantly moved beyond words. I have yet to hear the entire CD but will be getting it immediately. In the past few months I have heard three musicical statements that have touched my soul deeply: Mycael Danna's soundtrack to the film "Water", Maneesh De Moor's CD "Sadhanna" and the incredibly haunting piano piece "Pure Essence", and as of tonight Starr Parodi's "Common Places". The emotion in Starr's playing reminds me of the depth of my late mother Barbara's piano playing. Memories of those I have loved and lost pour into me and I am touched by that longing (en Espanol "Anello")that reminds us of our eternality.
What beauty! Thank you.

"Common Places" is very UNcommon!

"Common Places" is very UNcommon!
What a relief and joy to listen to work uncomplicated by over-the-top doodads, super effects, and gimmicks. This music and musican is decorated with straight-forward honesty, power, talent, and HEART quietly enhanced by producer Jeff Fair...the best recipe for any artist's work! All I can tell you is that I begin listening with my mind in the typical daily buzzing mode most of us share, but by the last track I am so much more centered while feeling empowered by the infectious, confident, strength of the playing combined with such sensitivity. Ms. Parodi comunicates. And her message is so worth listening to...over and over again.

A genre-breaker: trance-pop with jazz and a lot of other stuff; smart, emotional
author: David Andersen
I'm the piano tuner/technician that maintains the instrument on the CD, and I'm usually a straight, pure classicist when it comes to piano tone: don't mess around with it, don't tweak it, voice it properly, leave it alone. If the piano doesn't sound good acoustically, it won't sound good.
But I KNOW this piano sounds great, so I listened to this CD as I was driving home from the Parodi/Fair studio a little while ago, and I thought, "these guys, Starr and Jeff, have done something really new: they've used the studio as an emotional AND subtle technical partner to the piano, and created a piano-based voice that is exciting, moving and original."
Great sounds, great feeling. Get relaxed, put on the headphones, and let these artists speak to you. Bravo.
