Album Notes

"Lo, years ago there was one particle. That particle tried as it may and tried as it might. It joined and formed many a band, ensemble, and musical plight. Years went by and experiences and sounds were gained and strained through all the formations. Through projects and rejects, loves and dislikes, the particle continued to hone a lovely high layered sound of loud telecasters, dreamy harmonies, and an energy that would burn through space and time on the ever morphing always pulsing push of all the imagination a TG-77 tone generator could produce. As the particle ontinued to pulse and burn, to keep near its radiance a love of fun, but a depth of character not to be dismissed as fluff, it rooted what light would shine with the big bang and bump of a solid and sexy rhythm section. Merely a year ago, this protagonist piece of matter tatooed the
culmination of its sound journey to our digital age and sent a formal message and invitation out through the ether. And as gravity and gaeity would have it, it drew more particles unto itself. That little particle was Fruitcake.

Eventually it would draw five more unto it self. Six members in all and one together, the Particle Seven. Fruitcake's message would call compatriots to form the group: Similar paths, similar travels. They've gigged in units, enjoyed the joy, and engaged the pains, and were now hearing the sounds of this particle calling each of them. Grizz would come to bang the skins with the fury of his beastly name. Shadow would float in to lay a heavy bass to keep in the frantic and powerful rhythm guitar raging of Gams. Radar could sense what was gathering and came to deliver signals of shredding on his trusty git-fiddle. And Kitty sauntered in to purr a smooth harmony across the sound of this tight nit, tight playing, ultra slick, more-PAAAAPAAAAPOWWW-than pop, collaboration. Absorb, release, enjoy and welcome to the Particle Seven."

When I imagine what space travel must SOUND like
author: Score! Music Magazine
When I imagine what space travel must SOUND like, it is much like what I have heard from The Particle Seven. This album is perfect for listeners of artists such as Beck, The Rentals, and Devo. A synthesizer laced, out of this world record is what should be expected from NULT. The album opens with an impressive song (“Different Girl”) that offers great lyrics, strong vocals and what seems to be punk influenced guitar and bass lines. Listening on, I notice that the first handful of songs tend to overuse the synthesizers and this at times causes the vocals to be muffled and drowned out. However, things take a turn for the better after the song about the “disgruntled Alabama cosmonaut” blowing up the earth (“Blow Up”). The next song is what I believe is the best on the album, “Way Out In The Universe.” The keyboard synth is pooled flawlessly with the distorted sounds of the other instruments. From this moment on, generally the album maintains this level of excellence. The remaining songs, for the most part, do not over use the technology or employ the drowned vocals. In fact, they make great use of vocal layering and harmonies as well they maintain a balance of alternative rock and Devo-esque melodies. “Superstar” the last song on the record is another of my personal favorites. The intro sounds like it could have been conjured up from the mind of Beck. NULT is an album that holds definite potential. With the right fine-tuning and minor adjustments this could easily be a college radio top ten. I would definitely recommend this album to any space age alternative rock fan.

great job to the p7. I came across this crew on a friends reccomendation in the city. she met one of these guys on a train and he put her on to this shiiizzzzzz. fantastic yo! its slick, its fun, and its thick. i gotta go with dude Gary two reviews above and say its nice to hear some rawk these days not laden with hip-metal-hop-fusion-rap-boy-band-non-sense or picking over the bones of the early 90s alterna-debacle. but ya know wut... fuhgehtabout my petty opinion... just wanted to say tanks for the tunez p7! -W.R.

I was pleasantly surprised at what a truly fetching CD this turned out to be. Got this one passed to me by a music-fan friend of mine. This collection of wonderfully hooky little nuggets seem to come from their own unique place somehow...a nice palatable blend of true pop density, cool instrumentation, great vocals and harmonies. This CD is a hell of a lot of fun, great party music. Can't wait to hear more. Nult?
