Album Notes

In the summer of 2004, Josh recorded some songs onto a tape cassette. He showed them to Jon, his brother, and then to Dylan and Jarel, high school friends. Then PASIFIRE was born.

Our first performance was in a little theater at our school. Then that summer we were asked to play at an American Cancer Society event called "Relay for Life" in National City. As we performed, people from different groups ran around a sidewalk, earning money for each lap to promote finding a cure for cancer. I believe our songs traveled to a deep part of listeners' hearts.

To me, that has been the sustaining element of singing in the band, of writing songs - the idea that these words and sounds can share a message, a feeling, and perhaps help people out through life. I want to see change.

In the summer of 2005, our drummer Dylan formed a youth gathering event which we call MGC (music/games/company). We invite friends from school, play games, recite poetry, and then perform at the end. Slowly like a tree I have grown, as a musician and a friend.

Now, it's the summer of 2007. Three of us have completed our first year of college; Jon is graduating from high school this year. We created this CD last summer to share to our departing high school friends.

There are messages within each song, the emotion of the thundering drums, the storytelling melodic bass lines from my brother, the simple yet colored chords of Jarel, blue like jazz. I reflect on what I was trying to say in the songs. The best ones were motivated by a yearning for change in people's lives, including my own, and a desire to understand and love God.

I hope you enjoy our CD and feel the same feeling, of friendship between bandmates, falling and rising like bridges, of promise that despite our trials, we ordinary people have hope for change and growth, finally learning how to hear one another, see one another, hold one another, love one another.
