Album Notes

This is the instrumental side of Lauren Passarelli. For her vocal songs check out Lauren's CDs under her band name, TWO TRU. [Links below for the CDs Shadow Language & Among The Ruins]

Back to the Bone features all instrumental guitar originals that pleasantly let you dream while listening. Some songs are layered with several guitars some are solo guitar features. Some songs are performed on acoustic guitar, some are performed on electric guitar. They float & haunt & nudge & pull, leaving the listener feeling calm & fed.

When you're influenced by some of the finest guitar players that ever graced our planet & you eat sleep & drink guitar from a tender age; music, personality, awareness & self are developed together. It's where living & expression & breathing are one in the same.

Lauren Passarelli is a master guitar player & musician's musician. She's a guitar player who has a feel & tone that personifies the notes she chooses. Clever & articulate her playing flows & looks effortless to create. The trademark of an expert. It looks so easy when played and it sounds brilliant. It's all about touch & feel. The magic happens with her hands, at her fingertips.

The songs on Back to the Bone don't sound like "guitar songs". They sound like compositions arranged for guitar. The interesting thing is they were all composed on guitar. A testimony to the depth of understanding Lauren has for the guitar. To her the guitar is as versatile an instrument as piano.

Lauren writes in standard & alternate tunings & the liner notes include the tunings as well as the guitars played for these recordings.

Lauren was the lead guitarist for the Beatle's tribute Band, ALL TOGETHER NOW known for their astonishing vocal blend & accurate arrangements of Beatle records down to the finest details from 1995 to 2007. Check out the Beatles lead guitar parts come alive on hundreds of videos on youtube.

Lauren's original pop/rock band, TWO TRU combines all her favorite musical influences: The Beatles, James Taylor, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Wonder, Pat Metheny Stevie Wonder, Carly Simon & many many more. Two Tru's latest release, Shadow Language was a top 5 finalist in the Independent Music Awards.

An inch away from going on tour with Pat Metheny, Pat sat across from Lauren in her living room & looked her straight in the eye & said, "You're a great guitar player". It's a wonderful thing to have a mentor's blessing smile upon you.

Lauren Passarelli has been a professor at Berklee College of Music in the largest guitar department in the world since 1984.

Mesmerizing
author: Forrest McFarland
Just an exquisite presentation of instrumentals. Lauren's melodies are interwoven with percussive rhythms that beg the listener's recapitulation only to discover another of Lauren's subtlties.

crazy great playing
author: Tom Bentley, guitarist
wow there's crazy great playing on this cd. Not stupid millions of notes distortion to choke a horse bu_l sh_t. actual songs, like compostions, like melodies on an instrumental guitar cd. WHAT A CONCEPT! I don't know how she finds so many great songs in all those wacky tunings she writes in but she does. Thanks for the videos on Utube too. Crazy great to watch you live. if I could play a decimal as well...favorite songs here the exciting back to the bone, the haunting day like today, the lovely song for susan. There isn't one I don't love. Crazy great.

Non stop Gorgeous
author: Charles Doucet, guitar player
This woman can make her guitar sing. This cd is non stop gorgeous. There's nothing recorded here that doesn't belong here. It's really vulnerable for most guitarists to leave space between phrases to not put the same licks over every song, to know when songs don't need a solo. Back to the bone is lush & warm & open, uncluttered, egoless, bare essentials, organic, beautiful, guitar music. I'm so impressed with the writing.

surefooted, guitar player with great taste
author: Steven Lighthouse, London
This is a great CD for many reasons, mostly musicality & guitar performance. Lauren is a surefooted, guitar player with great taste. Many live videos on utube testify how legit this player is. They don't come much finer than this. This cd doesn't clobber you down with volume or heroics. A guitar God of this quality is in a whole new dimension with details clever & direct, delicately complex, confident & boldly understated. The compositions are perfectly in tune with the contour of charm, bliss & desire. I love this recording. Bellissima.
