Review from Enigma Magazine 3/18/04
Next up is Brad Passons debut "Setup for Failure." After the first two tracks, I began to get a feel for what kind of animal I was dealing with here. In those tracks, "Jerk" and "Don't Wanna Mess It Up", I got the feeling that Brad is the epitome of the "man and his guitar" types. I would not say that he is one of those sappy folk singers though. He is more of the Jack Johnson/Dave Matthews types that focuses his efforts on quality songwriting instead of concentrating on the music. The songs on the disc are very mature in nature and he definitely has a way with words in describing lost love, self-reflection, and new beginnings. I was thoroughly impressed with his singing voice. Like I said before, he has this Jack Johnson thing going for him, but he also has a Coldplay/soft-core side to him that kind of rounds out the sound in a wholesome kind of way. Pretty much, the entire CD is just him with his acoustic guitar. This is a great way to relax after a long day. It has a soothing quality because of the light and airy sound. I reccomend this CD if you are into the laid back type of artist. "

outstanding stripped down music
author: dman
This CD has a great stripped down sound. It is Passons, his guitar, and an occasional back-up singer. His lyrics are well thought out and have a nice flow to them, yet they are not generic, watered down, radio pop ballads. Excellent selection for those looking for artists who are off the beaten path, but could be well known if the breaks come their way.

Having known Bad for the past few years I saw many of these songs come about as he kept me updated in town and over the phone after I moved. From his earliest performances at the Attic in Chattanooga to some of his latest around the country, he has shown he is a fully experienced songwriter and showman. His songs range from the heartfelt "Jerk" to the yearning in "California Dream". All around this album is a fantastic first effort from Brad. It's great to see his success after all these years.

UN Bee Lee Vable

As soon as I heard the first lines from Jerk "I promise to make you feel bad, to make you feel worthless" I was hooked. That song is my new theme song. The entire CD is good though. This guy has definitely been through some heartache, and he writes about it in a style thats not sappy, but emotional. This CD is going to be in my player for a long time.
