Album Notes

The “poetic, original songs” and “extraordinarily brave vocal style” (Lonnie Martin, Folk Rag) of Stephanie Barros Lees have endeared her to Brisbane audiences through her bands moot (brazilian-influenced folk-jazz) and maudlin (ambient-industrial trip-hop).

Emerging from her years of experience is her solo project pear and the awkward orchestra, a mini-orchestra of diverse instrumentation and sparse arrangements supporting an emotive and powerful voice and gritty, personal songs.

pear has just returned from an East Coast tour to solidify the exposure received through Triple J airplay and a feature in the April Jmag. The tour started at the Soundlounge (Currumbin) April 4 supporting stringmansassy and concluded in Melbourne May 15 at the afterdark. The next performance is June 25 at the Troubadour, Brisbane. EP Russian Doll is available through Rocking Horse Records (Brisbane) and at performances. Upcoming projects include a new website and film-clip supported by the Australia Arts Council.
