Album Notes

Inspired by Motown and Soul music, and brought up in punk and metal, Pat Paul is out to give you music that feels good and rocks hard. Nothing complicated, nothing bland.

Pat Paul recorded THE WORLD IS MY ASHTRAY, his first solo album, in September-November '05 with Jeff Kane (Haram, City Of Catapillar). He played ALL the instruments. This album covers a lot of bases musically, from straight acoustic tunes to jazzy rock to power pop, even a little psychobilly. Lyricaly, it's very much centered on love, either being in it, trying to get it, or getting out of it. Pretty simple.

Pat Paul plays out in and around the Northern VA area, his home. One day he will come to your town.

I give anyone that gives Pat Paul 3 stars -5 stars. Talent and originality are what make this album, not nerdy production critiques.

I give this cd 3 stars. 5 stars is reserved for accomplished hall of fame musicians. you can tell this young talented singer/songwriter has found a unique compelling voice expressed through simple, gimmick-free and never superficial, honest, emotive songwriting. That's alot of adjectives, i know, but fitting. yeah, the recording is rough at spots and the production and performance is sometimes uneven and not polished, but polish with no filling is the most commonplace thing you see in music these days, and if one thing is clear, you can tell this guy has found something that is distinctly his, and which is thoroughly satisfying and enjoyable at a gut level. its the stuff that has the potential to be really, really great. like 5 stars great. they say its not the end but the journey that is really worth its salt... if this is but the first step, i will definitely enjoy this ride.

Pat Paul is the truth!
author: Earleybird

Pat Paul is a self-taught disciple of many forms of music, from blues to punk rock and everything inbetween and his self-produced album "The World Is My Ashtray" features all aspects of his unique vocal stylings and sharp lyric writing skills, mixed with his ability to construct simple, yet catchy and endearing songs that reveal his emotions earnestly, honestly and enjoyably. He puts his signature touch on each instrument of every song, and they all mix well and accordingly to present a full range of consistent jams. One the one track where he is joined by a guest, his melodic sister makes a wonderful debut on a duet that is bittersweet and sincere. He goes from tranquil, low-key haunting melodies, to upbeat, harder edged tempos with a professional's cue, with good transition and pace, and this array of songs that are all 100% self composed and performed gives you a great vantage point into the perspective of one of Virginia's rising talents on the music scene. He had also been known to give a wonderful live show that leaves the audience begging for more. Also, pick up Ghost Blues if this album if your fancy.
