notes

Los Angeles singer, songwriter and guitarist PATRIA JACOBS is most known for her alt-art-rock band Rubyfish who flourished in the pre-hype Silver Lake scene from '90 to '96. Patria applies her southern bent and twisted lyrics in *Do The Pink*, this spoken word/rap/groove art damaged single (and seven remixed versions available on both cd and pink vinyl). Do The Pink charted on DJ playlists and club charts (Top 30 on Chicago DJ and Top 50 in Seattle/NW playlists).

Do The Pink was originally recorded in Patria's Silver Lake apartment then transferred to various studios & Los Angeles DJ's who each completed unique remixes: Cheeba (Mackrosoft, The Cheebacabra), Stew (of Negro Problem), Doten aka Trendcoma, DJ Pickles (David Guerrero), and The Mighty One (remixer/producer, Elephonic, Abstrakt Reality, George Sarah, Berlin, Erasure). The Pink mixes cross electronic, dance, funky, low-rider and pop ground.

Patria's southern obsession is no doubt a by-product of being born in Houston, Texas and living in places like New Caney, Humble and Waco, Texas before moving to California. A few years ago, while living in Hot Springs, Arkansas for almost a year, Patria began eavesdropping and taking rabid notes of Southern conversations... you can see the animated flash single of the Do The Pink-Cheeba remix at http://www.dothepink.com/video.html.

In summer 2005 Patria's debut full-length release "Poison of the Sea" has literally no resemblance to the aforementioned dance music project: her post-punk roots influence her ambient, pop and country songs. Built around piano, guitar, bass and drum, these new songs are an eclectic collection of pop, dirgy ballads and country flavored tunes. "Poison of the Sea" features performances by Stew, Heidi Rodewald (Negro Problem), Probyn Gregory (Wondermints/Brian Wilson), Paul Lacques (I See Hawks in LA), Tina Link (10 cent) and legendary jazz harpist Corky Hale (Liberace, Streisand, Bjork, Air). The cd is produced by Stew and Doten (Double Naught Spy Car, Carlos Guitarlos.)

reviews:

"Arrive early for former Rubyfish chanteuse Patria Jacobs, whose upcoming solo CD, Poison of the Sea, ranges from somber, countrified originals ("Stayed Away Too Long") to stately pop collaborations with the Negro Problem's Stew ("Hurricane"), all delivered with her languidly beguiling vocals and steeped in a feverishly dreamy haze. What did we tell you? Music for hangovers." LA Weekly/Falling James, 2005.

do the pink:

"Patria Jacobs: Doing The Pink... mixing a Southern twang with an L.A. street cynicism... the seven remixes firmly planting themselves in the pop-dementia compartment of your brain..." - Beyond Mainstream/Wade Contreras.

"Highly recommended... striking a strong resemblance to the music of Tom Tom Club, B-52's, Luscious Jackson, The Waitresses." - About.com 80's Music Editor Dawn Marie
