Album Notes

Patrice Haan has an ear for melody, a heart for feelings and a gift for lyrics, all of which are nicely combined in this debut solo album. Singing (and playing celtic harp) on a selection of her orginal tunes and songs, she evokes a feeling of stillness while being moving. Accompanied by guitar, dobro, viola and other voices on various songs, the CD remains an expression of her voice, and a lovely voice it is.

REVIEWS

it is stunning! It's really an unusual and lovely recording.

Patrice, it is stunning! It's really an unusual and lovely recording. My favorites are "Catching Your Breath," "Wild Dogs". (I've never heard you sing like that! You sound sophisticated country.) “The Western Isles" really knocked me out. You and Orville create an incredibly watery mood and then, three minutes into the tune, an ethereal voice starts singing words that sound like they are from some ancient cosmic runes. Talk about uncanny! That's really something. I also love "Dawn Song" and "Grasshopper Hymn" "Not Far Away" is a damn good song and a lovely way to end the album. There's a feeling of stillness that's maintained throughout the whole recording. It's not a quiet album. The stillness accentuates a deep emotional charge that runs through the entire record.

Thank you so much for the gift of your CD. It is brave and lyrical and haunting. I am so impressed and deeply moved. “I’m Not Far Away” keeps singing out suddenly….Maggie’s photos are perfect.. There’s such fine playing and what songs! Patrice, this is awesome, in the full meaning of the word.

There are so many exquisite moments here-I'm inspired!

Many thousand thanks, girlfriend. There are so many exquisite moments here--the mysterious and tender union of your harp and Orville's dobro on The Western Isles is a sound I can't get enough of. I'm replaying it now. It's as liquid as a spring rainstorm. Catching Your Breath I also love--such a gorgeous tune. I'm so impressed by the sound of your voice--it's such a treat to hear you playing with the fullness of your range, all the nuances of your rich tone. Thanks so much for this lovely gift Patrice. I'm inspired!

a real spellweaver..and worth a second/third/fourth listen
author: Paula Lalish
We had the CD on last night and it was a real spellweaver. Certainly it touched my already-deranged senses in the area of bittersweet, naked yearning for I knew not exactly what. You write friggin' BEEYOOTYFUL songs. And in an impressive array of styles, to boot! I love Orville's additions, and the ladies' harmonies, and just... find so much to admire. I guess I just gotta say go girl, go, because it IS beautiful and haunting and interestingly complex and worth a second/third/fourth listen. It's art, baby! Get used to it.
