Album Notes

My heartfelt gratitude is extended to everyone who helped this recording come to life, most particularly Toni Lara and Spot Barnett who encouraged me to create this CD, asking for very little in return!

The musicians who performed with me were wonderfully patient, kind and ever-encouraging! I am grateful to each of them for their words of wisdom and unending support. They constantly reminded me that ” the subtle imperfections”, which I wanted to change, “are what make the live recordings so charming!” I’d also like to extend my appreciation to my brother, pianist and writer Vance Villastrigo, who pointed out that "every other note Frank Sinatra sang was flat and nobody seemed to mind, neither Frank nor his fans!!" How very charming indeed!

To give you an idea of what you will find within this CD, international comedian and entertainer Jade Esteban Estrada says, “Patrice has such a powerful and soulful voice it stops you in your tracks! Then you find yourself smiling and you just HAVE to hear more!.”

The CD not only features the smooth and soulful vocals of Patrice Villastrigo but also the bluesy vocals and saxophone of Music Hall of Fame inductee Vernon “Spot” Barnett. Both performers, natives of San Antonio, Texas, have performed for jazz enthusiasts worldwide for over 30 years.

Review of A Song for You

I love Patrice's voice and Spot Barnett is so wonderful too. The sax is my favorite instrument. I am hardly able to say which song goes on the top of my list but i guess I will say making whoopee as it is a fun song. All these songs demonstrate Patrice's wonderful range and ability. I play this CD in my truck as I drive around long distances. The Rose has been a favorite song of mine that I sing often but as said already her unique treatment of the song is fabulous.

Patrice's delivery of the "Rose" and "Some Where Over the Rainbow" were my favorite tracks. Very soothing sound to the ears!

Patrice Villastrigo excels at Great American Songbook
author: Tony Cantu

I liked the infectious joyfulness of "Keep on Smiling." The rendition seems to have been recorded with no small measure of enthusiasm and joie de vivre, a sense evident with every note. At the other end of the mood spectrum, I found the delivery of "My Funny Valentine" at once haunting, pensive and poignant, as if delivered by a singer -- of ... See Moreconsiderable ability, I might add -- reflecting upon a lost love. Overall, I found selections from the Great Amerrican Songbook well represented here. More contemporary offerings as "A Song for You" are presented with a necessary dose of palpable contrition as the interpreter pleads forgiveness to a slighted lover in this classic torch song. On the whole, a delightful musical experience by a lovely and able interpreter of song.
